Community Engagement Coordinator
The mission of Catholic Charities is to serve those most in need and to advocate for justice in the community.
As the need for our services grows and becomes increasingly complex, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond. We respond in three ways – preventing poverty, meeting basic needs in times of crisis, and creating pathways out of poverty.
WAGE RANGE: $62,000 - $72,000/annually, plus benefits
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking a self-motivated leader and community organizer who is engaged in social justice, and is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware for its Community Engagement Coordinator.
The Community Engagement Coordinator is a critical partner in the integration and advancement of Catholic Charities community of stakeholders and is responsible for expanding the base of Catholic Charities’ constituents who support the mission of Catholic Charities through philanthropy, advocacy, and volunteerism.
This position will work to engage parish and community leaders, along with other interested partners, through education, facilitation, civic engagement, and coalition work. The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist with the development of social justice acumen and leadership skills among Catholic Charities constituents in partnership with the Advocacy & Engagement Team and will report directly to the Director of Culture & Belonging.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and execute outreach strategies to recruit faith community members and other interested individuals into Catholic Charities’ advocacy network, volunteerism, and in-kind donation opportunities such as Giving Tree.
- Represent Catholic Charities and build community relationships at selected community/civic events and with key partners.
- Lead external Catholic Social Teaching education to help constituents understand this central piece of the mission, foundation, and lens of Catholic Charities’ work.
- Facilitate focused conversations, conduct presentations, and lead workshops for and with internal and external stakeholders to social justice issues in a manner that models inclusion & belonging, promotes ongoing civil discourse, leads to greater civic engagement, and opens doors to a deeper relationship with the organization.
- Provide agency representation on relevant coalitions, including serving as Coordinator for the Catholic Racial Justice Coalition.
- Create and update written & experiential education and training tools to assist leaders in the work of social justice and bring the experiences and challenges of individuals and families served by Catholic Charities to life for current and potential advocates, donors, and volunteers.
- Assist Catholic Charities clients and staff in acting on public policy issues by providing them with appropriate information and training and how to participate in the elements of the agency’s public engagement strategy.
- Provide connections to technical support for parishioners and other community members interested in influencing decision-makers at the local, regional, and statewide levels by focusing on topics such as relationship-building, leadership development, strategic action planning, systemic change, and Catholic Social Teaching.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
- Two (2) years of relevant experience is required; a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in theology, political science, public affairs, social work, or related fields is preferred
- Passion for social justice advocacy required.
- Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching and trauma informed care preferred.
- Faith-based organizing experience preferred.
- Excellent public speaking and facilitation abilities required.
- Good project management and curriculum building skills.
- Ability to identify and train leaders, plan strategically, analyze issues and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
