Community Engagement Coordinator (USA)

Location: USA, remote with regular travel within the country. Candidates from the following regions will be prioritized. Midwest: Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. Southeast: Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina. Southwest: Texas and Oklahoma
Salary: $45,000 - 50,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent: full-time
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the US

The role

We are actively seeking a dedicated and dynamic Community Engagement Coordinator to play a pivotal role in expanding the reach and impact of our education-focused initiatives in the United States. In this key position, you will be responsible for fostering strong relationships with educators, schools, and youth-serving organizations. Your efforts will contribute to the visibility and growth of our priority products and initiatives.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator (USA) will work towards strategic projects for the development and growth of various products and learning experiences. The ideal candidate for this role will bring a proven track record in community coordination, networking, and outreach, with a keen understanding of the US education landscape. With support from the Executive Director, your ability to coordinate the development of outreach plans, work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including colleagues in our other markets, and execute successful events will be essential in making a meaningful impact in our mission.

You don’t need to be an expert in computing or digital making, but you do need to bring a passion for our mission and a willingness to learn.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people from all backgrounds can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we will make it work for you.

Responsibilities

Networking and Outreach

  • Maintain effective relationships with educators, schools, and youth-serving organisations to ensure visibility and growth of priority products and initiatives.
  • Identify key education conferences and expos relevant to the Foundation’s goals in the US; plan and execute initiatives to establish a visible and impactful presence at these events.
  • Coordinate the setup and management of booths or displays at educational conferences to showcase priority products and initiatives in collaboration with the Marketing Team.
  • Manage communication channels and foster engagement with the Raspberry Pi Foundation (RPF) community, encouraging collaboration and shared learning.
  • Implement systems for tracking, measuring, and reporting the impact of outreach initiatives.

Marketing

  • Work with the Executive Director and Marketing Team to develop and refine talking points, materials, and outreach plans, resulting in an understanding of educators' needs, challenges, and preferences in integrating RPF products.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create compelling promotional materials and campaigns to attract participants.
  • Contribute to public relations efforts by promoting success stories, testimonials, and positive outcomes resulting from outreach initiatives.

Event Planning and Execution

  • Organise and coordinate Coolest Projects USA events, including US participation in on-line Coolest Projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues responsible for RPF’s other products, sharing learning and supporting initiatives as appropriate.

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth and development. We expect post holders to have most, but not necessarily all of the following experience and personal attributes:

  • Proven experience supporting fast-paced events or projects with lots of moving parts
  • Proactive, with evidence of owning the delivery of small projects, events, or other relevant areas of responsibility
  • Organised with experience of organizing other people
  • Excellent communication skills; you should feel comfortable presenting to different audiences and be able to write clearly
  • Patient, empathetic, resilient, and a resolute problem-solver
  • Experience of working around others in close proximity, under pressure, while remaining calm and focused
  • Ability to work across teams, and a track record of cooperating with colleagues to achieve results
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the US, with overnight stays when necessary
  • Have relevant local networks, with contacts that you can use to further our mission
  • Good data and analytical skills, and the ability to use data effectively to improve what we do
  • Knowledge of the educational landscape in the US and how schools operate

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity with the mission to enable young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies.

Established in 2008 and first known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed education programmes, learning experiences, and products that are helping millions of young people learn vital new knowledge and skills

Through Code Club and CoderDojo, we support the world’s largest network of free informal computing clubs for young people. Tens of thousands of educators have taken our online courses, and millions of people use our free online learning resources. To deepen our understanding of how young people learn about computing and how to create with digital technologies, we conduct academic research, and we use that knowledge to increase the impact of our work and advance the field of computing education.

Across all of our work, we work hard to engage young people who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing or who experience educational disadvantage. We work all over the world, with teams based in the UK, Ireland, North America, and India, and partnerships with mission-aligned organisations in over 40 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global movement to help young people learn about computing and digital making. You can read more about our mission, values, and goals in our Annual Review 2022 and our Strategy 2022–2025.

Benefits

In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a range of benefits for all of our colleagues, including:

  • 15 days annual leave plus public holidays (prorated for part-time employees)
  • Option of buying up to 2 working weeks extra annual leave per year
  • Company-wide close down for 3 days at the end of the year
  • Paid sabbatical leave (after 7 years of service)
  • Retirement savings plan (401(k))
  • Workers’ compensation cover
  • Group term life and AD&D insurance
  • Medical cover (including dental and vision)
  • Annual contribution to flu vaccinations
  • Family leave policies

Phone screen: Week commencing 11 March 2024
First-round interview: Week commencing 18 March 2024
Second-round interview: Week commencing 1 April 2024

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Further background checks will be made at regular intervals thereafter.
