Job description

Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager of the Community Arts Initiative, the Community Arts Liaison serves as the primary educator and contact for one or more of the Community Arts Initiative’s (CAI) partner organizations. Duties center on supporting and facilitating CAI partner use of the MFA as a resource.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Community Arts Liaison serves as a link between the CAI partner and the MFA’s CAI in the planning and developing of new resources and programs. In this part-time role, they meet regularly with CAI partner staff to ensure the organization and participating families feel knowledgeable and empowered to take advantage of Museum partnership and program offerings.

The CAI Liaison works with the CAI partner’s director to plan and implement Museum-related art programs at both the MFA and community partner’s site. Activities may include tours, family nights, drop-in art making, and a variety of special projects. They work closely with CAI Museum staff to schedule these programs according to the needs of the CAI partner and the goals of the program. The Liaison is responsible for creating and submitting lesson plans, required list of materials, reports, and documentation for all visits, including offering feedback and support to other Liaisons who may work with their partner site in separate visits. Additionally, Liaisons ensure that materials and tools are cared for, put away, and that the studio is in order for the next user.

Throughout the school year the Liaison also works closely with the Lead Artist for the CAI Artist Project to plan and lead tours in the Museum’s galleries. They assist the Lead Artist in facilitating art-making activities, and provide educational and logistical support, as needed, during project sessions. The Liaison may also transport youth between the MFA and partner sites for some of the sessions.

Must be available to work afternoons, evenings and some holidays. Scheduled hours will not exceed 17 hours per week or a maximum of 250 hours each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

Must attend staff meetings and trainings.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

The CAI Liaison maintains a detailed record of program participants during each session, including names, ages and other demographic information. They submit and collect photo and video release forms, and share opportunities about Museum programs and MFA family memberships.

Liaisons meet regularly as a team, and individually with other CAI Museum staff to provide mutual support and discuss common issues that arise in working with community partner organizations.

The CAI Liaison may occasionally teach in other Learning and Community Engagement (LCE) programs, activities and events for youth and families at the Museum.

Perform other related duties as required or directed.

The Museum reserves the right to change job descriptions. While this job description is intended to include essential duties, it is conceivable that job duties may change before the job description is officially revised.
