Job Description:
Title: Adjunct Instructor - Culinary Arts
Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty
Department: Academic Affairs - Business, Legal Studies & Public Service
Reports to: Dean of Business. Legal Studies & Public Service
Date: March 5, 2024
General Summary: Teach courses in the Culinary Arts Program, including but not limited to Culinary Skills and Baking. The faculty member will work with the Dean, Department Chair, and other faculty in the program's planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach less than 15 credits per semester in Culinary Arts courses
- Develop and use teaching methods that engage students having varying learning styles and abilities
- Participate in curriculum and program development; workforce development initiatives; and high-impact practices as they relate to the college's strategic plan
- Manage preparations and planning for hands on culinary classes, including ordering, inventory, and storage of class materials.
- Demonstrate proper cooking and food safety techniques in classroom
- Create curriculum based on current culinary concepts, theories and practices
- Demonstrate proper knife skills and safe handling procedures for kitchen equipment such as mixers and food processors
- Analyze student progress and provide proper feedback and coaching
- Design educational materials such as lesson plans, recipes, and food preparation instructions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Experience in the Culinary Arts field
- Successful culinary teaching experience
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or familiarity with community colleges
Additional Information:
Salary Range: The Adjunct Faculty salary range is determined in accordance with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement. For more information on DCE Salary Steps and Lab Ratio, see Article VIX of the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
