WE ARE ACERO

 

The Community Affairs and Advocacy Internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of external affairs, including community engagement, development and marketing communications while working for a nonprofit organization. The intern will work primarily with the Culture Team & Director of Community Affairs & Advocacy to provide research support in advancing the public policy priorities  and community resources of Acero Schools.

 

The intern will acquire valuable resume-building experience, and put into practice the skills learned in class. At the completion of this internship, the intern can expect to gain experience in how to research and analyze proposals impacting Acero’s service communities; how nonprofits use social media to forward their mission;how community engagement has a positive impact on our school; how to identify and apply for grant opportunities; and how database management can make all efforts manageable and increase productivity.

  • Community Affairs: support the Community Affairs & Advocacy Director by researching community based organizations; assist with regulatory organization and industry group meetings preparation; assist with logistics and planning advocacy activities. Collaborate in the Equity Newsletter (tasks include: researching community events, resources, and opportunities for our Acero families).
  • Marketing: support communications team in the coordination of marketing materials and in providing research and data analysis.
  • Database Management: assist in database clean-up, contact management, and data analysis as needed.
  • Development: research and assist in drafting content to support grant writing and fundraising initiatives; provide on-site support at annual fundraisers.
  • Other duties, as assigned, may include reporting on meetings and attending relevant weekly meetings.
  • Assist in social post and newsletter translations from English to Spanish. 
  • Believe in our ability to create the future we envision.

  • Education: working towards a college degree or a recent graduate, preferably in a related field  but not limited (e.g., Political Science, Public Policy, Government, Social Work, Education or Public Administration).
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)-written and verbal (required).
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with colleagues, families and with other external contacts.
  • Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, possess a professional work ethic and be eager to learn how to apply their education to professional assignments.
  • Available to work onsite at least once a week. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.


Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
