Operates the telephone switchboard to relay incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains current hospital telephone directory listings and numbers for information purposes.
- Receives and screens incoming calls from outside hospital, and assists callers in making connections with desired patients.
- Operates public address system to page authorized personnel, announces visiting hours, and makes other general announcements.
- Monitors various hospital emergency alarm systems, and immediately notifies appropriate personnel when alarms occur.
- Operates beeper system, and communicates with Security on two‑way radio system.
- Acts as answering service during evenings and nights for several physicians and departments.
- Performs other miscellaneous functions such as implementing "bomb threat" or "disaster" plans as necessary, and maintains door keys for emergency situations.
- Performs any of the duties and responsibilities of the Information Receptionist, as required.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
- Six (6) months prior experience as Communications Systems Operator or Call Center, Customer Service, Switchboard, Receptionist.
- Must have ability to maintain composure during contacts with callers.
- Must have pleasant telephone voice, and be able to work closely with other operators.
- One (1) year hospital based experience as a Communications Systems Operator.
