Communications Specialist

Position OverviewA student communication assistant position is open at KU International Affairs. A successful candidate will work directly with the director of strategic communications to create promotional materials for flyers, emails, social media and the website. This position will require skills in graphic design, photography, videography and writing.
The applicant should be detail oriented, a quick learner, and able to manage numerous tasks at once using strong organization skills. Punctuality and responsibility are expected.
KU International Affairs is the administrative unit on campus that connects KU and the world through the promotion, integration and support of international activities. The KUIA division is composed of the Applied English Center, International Short Programs, International Support Services and Study Abroad & Global Engagement.
Job DescriptionThe student communication assistant will design promotional materials, including but not limited to assisting with the KUIA annual report, presentation material, event invitations and programs, social media graphics, web imagery, flyers, and posters using the Adobe Creative Suite. The role will also assist the director of strategic communications in making routine web updates, posting to social media and taking videos and photos.Required Qualifications

Current KU student enrolled in 6 or more credit hours

Experience working with the Adobe Creative Cloud, including: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator as demonstrated by application materials

Experience collaborating with team members in day-to-day activities and special projects, as demonstrated by application materials

Graphic design and layout experience (such as creating flyers, brochures and other promotional materials), as demonstrated by application materials

Preferred Qualifications

Experience creating online content for website, social media and electronic newsletters

Website content management experience (e.g., Drupal, Word Press, HTML, CSS, Java Script, etc.)

Advanced writing and proofreading skills (e.g., social media, newsletter, etc.)

Photography experience

Awarded and accepted Federal Work Study
