Job description

The Communications Specialist I collaborates with Communications team members to develop and publish public-facing digital and print media and conduct stakeholder outreach and education. The Communications Specialist I may also be tasked to assist with other internal communications or corporate needs, including, but not limited to, organizational charts, press releases, other media campaigns, or external publications. The Communications Specialist I develops content consistent with the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program key messages and follows requirements in the QIO Brand Guidelines, QIO Communications Manual, Company’s Internal Organization for Standardization (ISO) documents, and other reference material. The Communications Specialist I ensures that Company’s QIO website and other materials comply with accessibility and plain language guidelines.

Primary Duties:• Exercise discretion to develop and generate original public-facing content and conceptual collateral that identifies a product and/or conveys a clear message.• Work autonomously to refine existing content, develop new ideas, research various topics, identify new publication channels, and develop new projects.• When developing QIO material, refer to the QIO Program’s key messages and follow the guidance outlined in the QIO Communications Handbook, Company Style Guide, QIO Brand Guidelines, accessibility guidelines, and other resources.• Design and produce marketing communications, both print and digital, for a wide variety of clients with little to no supervision.• Coordinate the development of training materials, marketing efforts, and other initiatives as assigned.• Ensure drafted materials have been internally vetted prior to publication.• Contribute to the development of the Company’s QIO social media accounts. Develop social media content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, including original graphics and posts with little to no supervision. Supports and facilitates changes to Company’s QIO website.• Contribute to the production of original digital media, including videos and podcasts to support the Company’s messaging, outreach, and education needs.• Develop ideas for images, graphics, and visual components for product illustrations, logos, websites, and other vehicles with little to no supervision. Create designs by hand or using computer software packages, selecting colors, images, text style, and layout.• Draft or write, edit, and publish articles, blogs, and other written communications, both print and digital, for a wide variety of audiences with little to no supervision.• Conduct e-mail and telephone outreach to established and potential stakeholders, fostering the development of solid relationships. Coordinate and conduct educational webinars and facilitate partner meetings to advance QIO messaging and stakeholder relationships.• Participate in the creative process.• Collaborate with internal teams to develop creative solutions and work independently to develop/translate those solutions through various channels.• Adhere to established publication deadlines.• Stay current on industry trends.• Participate in external meetings with third-party vendors, consultants, auditors, customers, and other stakeholders.• Interact with external third-party vendors and monitor compliance with internal controls for information systems security, including confidentiality and non-disclosure policies.• Document all outreach, education, and engagement activities on required templates.• Assist with the development and production of the Annual Medical Review Services Reports and other customer deliverables.• Protect the confidentiality of patient information through compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).• Attend annual security awareness training and testing, rules of conduct, and conflict of interest training.• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge:• Basic knowledge of mass media/communication industry practices, principles of mass communication, adult learning principles, and editorial and audio/video production processes.• Must be able to apply style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for Company and its external clients.• Ability to be creative and offer a variety of design and messaging solutions.• A basic understanding of health care is a plus. Experience in accessibility and requirements in Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act also a plus.• Desirable knowledge includes social media trends and principles, HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and other website code standards, and video or graphic production processes.• Possess strong conceptual skills and a high-level sense of design, layout, and typography.Essential Education:• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, education, or design, is preferred or equivalent experience related to most of the job’s essential functions.• Portfolio preferred.Essential Skills:• Adaptable and quick learner. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.• Strong creative, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.• Must be highly detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.• Strong research and proofreading skills.• Ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision. Work well with tight deadlines in a remote team environment.• Adept at listening to clients’ needs and analyzing, selecting, creating, and implementing the best-designed solution.• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to generate original content consistent with the communication team’s strategy.• Excellent proofreading and editing skills and the ability to organize and coordinate multiple simultaneous activities in a team environment. A professional demeanor and superior written and oral communication skills are essential.• Willingness to accept feedback and apply necessary changes or edits.• Preferred: Experience in social platforms and basic graphic design skills. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, podcast platforms, and related tools and software. Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite and similar software. Solid writing and editorial skills and knowledge of the publication process. Experience in telemarketing, public speaking skills, and experience in meeting facilitation.

Organizational “Fit” Considerations:Ability to multitask and switch between various tasks. Must be flexible and proactive in covering and overseeing services provided by the job function. This position may require extended work hours during the week, weekends, holidays, or on-demand.
