Communications Specialist

Pitta Bishop & Del Giorno LLC has built a reputation for effective, client – centered advocacy before all New York State and New York City government agencies and regulators. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team in NYC as a Communications Specialist to coordinate and work with team members on the development and implementation of strategic campaigns for the firm’s clients, and to assist in the development of the overall strategic direction of communications for the firm.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Connect with a variety of community stakeholders and decision makers on all levels of New York City and State government, including Community Boards, offices of elected and public officials
• Conduct research related to ongoing projects and assist with the development and delivery of materials for meetings, presentations, and events
• Assist in the development of media and communications strategies
• Assist in the drafting and distribution of press releases, testimony, and newsletters
• Monitor social media content for information released by press, electeds and firm clients
• Assist in management of media relations
• Proactively generate creative story ideas, pitches, and media opportunities for clients and the firm
• Draft and edit a variety of client materials
• Engage with team members and clients to help identify successes, accomplishments and opportunities promoting the firm and its clients
• Attend political fundraisers, town halls, and other government affairs networking events
• Other responsibilities as needed and assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong written and verbal advocacy, communication, and analytical skills
• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to cultivate and maintain contacts in various media outlets
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with elected and appointed government officials and staff
• Strong organizational and time management skills in order to service a large client portfolio and meet critical deadlines
• Strong research and investigative capabilities
• Cultural competency and interest in labor, health care, not for profits and social justice issues
• Awareness of current news events

Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in strategic communications, public relations, or public policy
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, public policy, or other relevant field
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience in using digital communications and social media platforms for clients
