The Sheriff has announced an opening for a Communications Deputy in the Operational Support Department.
Applicants must:
· Have POST certification or be willing to obtain certification;
· Be self-motivated, and able to multi-task;
· Have good written and oral communication skills and accurate data entry;
· Have good typing and organizational skills and the ability to act promptly and effectively in emergency situations;
· Be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays;
· Possess the ability to perform job duties effectively in stressful situations;
· Have the ability to type 40 words per minute and possess basic skills in proper formatting of a standard correspondence, reports and other materials;
· Be able to deal courteously and effectively with the public, government officials, and other employees of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
· Answer emergency incoming telephone calls and routes to appropriate service provider;
· Relay instructions and/or questions from patrol units and other emergency service providers;
· Record calls broadcasted and complaints received;
· Question callers to determine location and seriousness of emergency and response needed;
· Receive and transmit messages between Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel and other law enforcement agencies;
· Use established computerized databases, perform background checks on driver’s licenses, criminal histories, and outstanding warrants as requested by law enforcement personnel;
· Update databases by entering new activities performed and information gathered;
· Other duties may be assigned.
Applicants will appear before an Oral Review Board, which will be scheduled in the weeks following the deadline date. The Oral Review Board will consider, but will not be limited to the following information: years of service, college education, military service, training certifications, special skills and dependability
Beginning annual base salary will be at least, $37,800.00. This position is eligible for State Supplemental Pay but not a take home unit.
