The duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists the Director of Communication and Office of Communication in communicating about district programs and initiatives, student and employee recognitions, and general information to our various publics.
- Identifies target audiences and can choose the best communication platforms to reach those audiences.
- Works with individual divisions, departments and schools to plan and implement appropriate and effective communications/public relations/marketing plans.
- Is trained in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and can produce high-quality and engaging posts in line with district goals and objectives.
- Assists in producing and editing publications including flyers, brochures, news releases, magazines and more.
- Writes, produces, and/or may even appear in or host public services announcements, commercials and shows for mcpssTV.
- Assists in planning system-wide events such as Teacher Institute, the Learning Leading Awards, board recognitions, groundbreaking ceremonies and school dedications, and more.
- Organizes employee recognition programs such as Teacher of the Year, the Giving Tree, and more.
- Assists in the preparation of the department budget.
- Organizes community service projects such as Stuff the Bus, blood drives, food drives, and more.
- Takes photographs at events.
- Completes clerical duties such as answering the phone, responding to emails, ordering supplies, paying requisitions, and more.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree desired, preferably in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Graphics Arts, or related field.
Must have proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Experience in Canva, Photo Shop, and/or video editing software a plus.
Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.
Must have strong interpersonal skills, inlcuding being outgoing, social, cooperative and positive in relating to co-workers, MCPSS families, the media and anyone who calls.
Must have experience in developing communication related documents such as brochures, pamphlets, flyers, commercials, etc.
Must have excellent communication and writing skills.
Must be organized.
Must be able to write news releases, with AP Style preferred.

Salary Range: From/To Beginning pay - $49,225.00.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
