PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Communications and Community Relations Specialist will work closely with the administration to ensure messaging is projected to school district standards and promotes a positive image of the school district using all possible resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
REQUIRED SKILLS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree or higher preferred with major coursework in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 8 years of successful experience in production, field & studio production, shooting and editing, distribution, directing organizational public relations, Community Relations, media relations, and marketing/advertising. Preferred experience in schools and/or the public sector.
Proven ability to interact effectively with students, families, and the community who represent diverse cultures regarding race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other characteristics to build an effective collaboration between school and Community.

- Develop, execute, and evaluate a district-wide marketing plan to promote the school district's mission and programs
- Increase community and internal knowledge and awareness of school district priorities, programs, and accomplishments
- Communicating with target audiences
- Engaging the community through social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, and the website
- Writing and editing district communications and publications
- Assisting with developing on-brand messaging
- Coordinates special events

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Concepting, writing, directing, producing, and editing engaging videos from start to finish for the school district's website, social media sites, and public access channel, including board meetings, Superintendent videos, newscasts, and sports programs. The main emphasis is video production.
- Develops, executes, and evaluates marketing plans to promote the school district's mission and programs and to increase community and internal knowledge of school district priorities and accomplishments.
- Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of communications and public relations programs that will enhance the school district's image and position within the community
- Lead the strategic execution and implementation of digital communications for the district, including the district website and social media.
- Promotes and facilitates positive relationships and information networks with local, state, and Community organizations.
- Plans and executes school district advertising and promotion activities
- Design and produce video content for the school district's website, social media sites, and public access cable channels.
- Work to increase engagement and subscribers on school system social media platforms, including YouTube, FaceBook, etc.
- Write, photograph, and design school system electronic materials, newsletters, and brochures.
- Direct/assist in the design of promotional graphics for the website
- Promote campaigning and news writing
- In conjunction with the district's IT department, coordinate the appearance and accuracy of the school district's website and social media information.
- Build relationships and contacts with school and school system administrators to find valuable news stories and content ideas.
- In conjunction with school administrators, assist in promoting school district extra-curricular events, activities, and athletic events and programs.
- Completes projects and attends special events as assigned.
- Develop short- and long-term goals and plans for Communication and public relations programs and activities.
- Keep informed of school district developments.
- Attend and promote public events.
- Assist with student/staff awards and special events.
- Work with staff and volunteers by respecting and using their skills, expertise, experience, and insights.
- Perform a multitude of other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret complex reports on school finance, testing, transportation, and other educational-related topics.
- Excellent writing and scripting skills, with a thorough understanding of television branding; must be able to write strong and engaging promotional copy.
- Excellent Communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow laws and district policies
- Professionally skilled with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Acrobat) or Avid Media Composer.
- Proficient with a variety of cameras, including Sony FS-7, Hitachi in-studio broadcast cameras, and Ross Switcher.
- Proficient in studio and location lighting.
- Working knowledge of control room operations, studio and production, and streaming technologies.
