We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Building Commissioning Engineer. In this role, you will work closely with our experienced Commissioning Engineers to support the commissioning process of various building systems. You will contribute to ensuring that newly constructed or renovated buildings perform optimally and meet the specified design intent. The right candidates will have a passion for sustainability, a strong understanding of architectural engineering principals, a comfort with project field work, as well as strong communication and organizational skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone looking to start their career in the field of building commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as Project Manager for commissioning projects executing the firm’s scope, being responsible for communication, schedule, and technical delivery.
- Provide quality assurance for building automated controls systems. Provide documentation and coordination of commissioning activities with owners and construction teams.
- Assist in conducting site visits and inspections to evaluate the performance of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and controls.
- Collaborate with senior Commissioning Engineers to develop commissioning plans, schedules, and checklists for different phases of the commissioning process.
- Perform hands-on functional testing and verification of building systems to ensure they operate according to design specifications and industry standards.
- Document and report any deficiencies or issues identified during the commissioning process, and work with the project team to resolve them.
- Review construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and submittals, to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Assist in coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to facilitate the commissioning process.
- Assist in preparing comprehensive commissioning reports and final documentation for project closeout.
- Stay updated with industry standards, codes, and best practices related to building commissioning.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and training to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
- Consult with clients to develop Owner’s Project Requirements
- Review construction documents and submittals of MEP systems
- Author commissioning plans, specifications, issues logs, meeting minutes, site observation reports, prefunctional checklists, functional performance tests, systems manuals, and final reports
- Manage kick-off, coordination, and conflict resolution meetings
- Conduct site visits for troubleshooting; static inspections; testing, adjusting, and balancing; functional testing; and owner training
- Cultivate effective relationships with clients, customers and contractors
Necessary Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or construction management.
- Strong interest in building systems and energy efficiency.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with either design, installation, or troubleshooting MEP systems
- Extremely responsive and dedicated to meeting expectations
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam
- Ability to Travel
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and concepts.
- LEED GA credential (preferred, but not required).
- Familiarity with HVAC systems, controls, and building automation systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Prior experience or internships in the field of building commissioning (preferred, but not required).
- An understanding of ASHRAE, ACG, energy code and LEED commissioning requirements.
- Experience with either design, installation, or troubleshooting MEP systems
