Salary Range: $90,000 - $135,000
The Commercial Credit Portfolio Analyst assists in the active management of a portfolio of accounts, assists with the development of team portfolio tools and risk management using key market and industry information to determine the impact on the portfolio in a collaborative manner. The Portfolio Analyst is responsible for risk grading, and risk analysis/credit approval for amendments, renewals and/or modifications, related documentation, and the organized tracking and monitoring of account and portfolio performance under the guidance of the Senior Portfolio Manager.
- Act as the primary account manager for a portfolio of loan accounts.
- Assist in establishing a monitoring process for the loan portfolio, and establish efficient and effective risk management reporting tools, in collaboration with Management, loan administration and operations staff and other key stakeholders.
- Evaluate accounts and credit facilities by performing financial statement analysis, reviewing spreads, calculating adherence to compliance statements & loan covenants, and assessing the overall risk within the client’s business, industry, customer base and geography.
- Ensure portfolio data is accurate, timely, and complete to ensure strong quality and reporting capabilities.
- Approve advance requests, in coordination with the Senior Portfolio Manager and loan administration.
- Assist Senior Portfolio Manager in the evaluation of loan amendments, increases, extensions and modifications:
- Prepare and present deal-screening memorandum and prepare approval memorandum.
- Run the risk rating model. Analyze and interpret the risk rating results and support rating recommendation.
- Analyze borrower/guarantor financial condition and assess credit risk; perform cash flow and collateral analysis, base case and downside analysis, and credit metrics to determine credit risk.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of, and ensure compliance with, internal bank commercial loan policy, credit risk management policy, and external regulatory requirements. Identify and report exceptions and mitigate.
- Assess industry/market/external factors impact on the credit transaction.
- Monitor adequate completion of credit approval process, closing and post approval items.
- Participate in ongoing pipeline meetings.
- Assist Risk Team with management of delinquent loans and reporting on status of delinquent loans.
- Conduct post-closing credit file and generally maintain post-closing files.
- Provide data and analyses in support of reserving and/or write-off actions of the organization as requested.
- Maintain trend cards on a timely basis and ensure that files are kept up to date and orderly.
- Prepare and present account updates to senior leadership during quarterly portfolio review.
- Detailed coaching and development of current Portfolio Analyst skills.
- Participate in client calls and on-site visits to gain exposure to clients.
- Exposure to more complex deals through mentorship with seasoned underwriters and portfolio managers, deal shadowing and other learning opportunities.
- Perform other duties as requested as well as ad hoc tasks and projects.
- Bachelor degree required, preferably in Finance or Economics.
- 2 - 6 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient analytical and financial modeling capability.
- Self-starter who is confident and comfortable managing a transaction.
- Must be proficient in MS suite of products (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication skills (verbal + written).
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills, and proven ability to work in a team environment.
