Commercial Architectural Designer

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for a variety of assignments in all aspects of architectural design from project conception to final construction. Successful candidates will be able to understand the needs and desires of our customers and incorporate them into full scale construction drawings that are in accordance with appropriate codes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Meet with customers and sales team to initiate and develop designs based on the customer’s vision and needs.
• Ability to take a customer’s rough ideas and turn them into full scale constructable designs.
• Accurately design and draw plans for foundations, buildings, and structures.
• Coordinate engineers from the initial planning stages through final construction.
• Determines the types of materials required during the design phase that will achieve the customer’s needs will meeting building code.
• Has extensive knowledge of IBC building codes and Wisconsin building codes and regulations and incorporate them into the architectural designs.
• Be a resource to other team members for building code questions and concerns.

• Anticipate and assist in resolving potential construction challenges before they become active issues.

• Review and red mark drawings that will be submitted for state review.
• Ability and willingness to travel when required.
• May visit jobsites to gather data needed to complete designs.
• Follow all company and customer policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD software is required to develop 2D and 3D drawings.
• Previous experience with Advanced Steel and other architectural drafting tools is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation, organizational and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of the general construction industry and the sub-contractor trades.
• Ability to take pride in servicing the “customer” and having a strong commitment to
• Proactively address questions, concerns, and/or complaints as they arise.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems before they become major issues.
• Ability to initiate crucial conversations.
• Ability to work independently and have the motivation to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to
• Ability and knowledge to use basic office equipment and software, including plotter printers.
• Ability to follow all policy and procedures as set forth by Fox Cities Builders and their “customer”.
• Ability to communicate fluently in the English language through verbal, and written communication required.

Education and Experience:

• Professional degree in Architecture or similarly related study required.
• Revit/AutoCAD experience required.
• General knowledge of the commercial construction industry required.
• A minimum of 5 years of related experience required
• Prior experience in an architecture firm preferred.
• Membership in American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds at a time as needed.
• Must be physically able to walk on uneven, wet, slippery, or grainy surfaces as needed.
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures as well as in rain or snow types of conditions as needed.
