Job description

New Dawn Charter High School will provide over-aged and under-credited students 15 - 21 years of age, including those who are English Language Learners and those with special needs, the opportunity to return to school and obtain a high school diploma through a rigorous NYSED standards-based education program.

College and Career Readiness Coordinator, with Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certification
The College and Career Readiness Coordinator will report to the College and Career Readiness Manager. The position works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services; facilitates linkages with parents, business/industry, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to support student's transition to postsecondary education and employment. It is understood and expected that all members of the team collaborate to support all our students. The person who accepts this position will be a key member on the CTE Team that is developing the CTE Culinary Program at both Campuses.

Job requirements:

  • Planning with colleagues’ specific strategies for CTE career program success for all learners, including our special needs and English Language Learners
  • Act as a liaison to students and with the CTE community partnerships that provide opportunities for students
  • Assist students with the selection of appropriate academic and CTE course of study
  • Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions
  • Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments
  • Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities
  • Assist students with postsecondary education and employment opportunities
  • Facilitate work-based learning opportunities
  • Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills
  • Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into CTE and academic courses
  • Promote the use of technology for career planning and research
  • Publicize partnership resources
  • Participate in professional development activities at the local levels
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce
  • Assist with activities that ensure program funding and compliance when needed
  • Effective leadership skills that inspire teamwork and dedication
  • Strategic problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills to be employed with students, families, staff, and community members
  • Exceptional management and organizational skills
  • Positive experience in taking the initiative, assuming accountability, and being productive in attaining measurable goals and mission accomplishments

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues, parents, students, industry partners, and the community

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be CTE Certified, in some cases will consider individuals currently working towards CTE certifi.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Education or related field required, advanced degree a plus. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors with CTE certification urged to apply.

  • Possess excellent integrity, a gentle spirit, and demonstrate strong moral character and initiative.
  • Demonstrate technological abilities: word processing, data management, and informational retrieval.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Submit a background checks through the New York State Department of Education.
