Job Description
NATURE OF WORK
The position performs technical collection and clerical administrative work in the billing,
collecting and crediting of all Town revenues.
Work involves responsibility for receiving payments of taxes and other revenue, in accurate manner in accordance with statutes and policies. The employee also has considerable public contact with property owners, title searchers, citizens, and other Town departments. Other duties of a general office nature are performed and usually require operation of standard office machines, including a computer terminal.
Work is reviewed for achievement of high standards of accuracy and comprehensiveness of files maintained, records updated, and for favorable customer relations with users of the services of the Collector of Revenue Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (The following are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position, but are not intended to be all-inclusive.)
Verifying payments received, issuing receipts and balancing recorded transactions to system Batch.
Serve as front line customer service for phones and service window.
Receive and process payments via mail and walk-ins.
Assist public and various town departments with tax related inquiries via telephone, mail and email.
Data entry using desktop computer software and specialized financial software.
Process Certificates of Correction prepared by the Assessor’s Office and adjusts records accordingly.
Engage in continuous collection activity as directed by supervisors.
Prepares standard correspondence relating to various office matters; maintains records and files; types reports, correspondence, lists, and forms.
Assists supervisors with daily tasks as needed.
Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work in a multitask environment.
Knowledge of cashiering practices and procedures.
Understanding arithmetic computations is critical.
Familiarity with data processing techniques and ability to type.
Ability to review and analyze information for input into system with speed and accuracy.
Strong customer service skills and ability to manage and resolve challenging customer service situations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of general office procedures and the operation of standard office machines, including a personal computer keyboard.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Town officials, representatives of other agencies, and the public.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the customers and general public and to convey concise and accurate explanations of policies, procedures, and requirements.

Works under the direction of the Collector of Revenue or the Deputy Collector in his/her absence.
