Position Function
Enforce the City of Altamonte Springs Codes, Land Development Code and various regulations. Specialized investigative and enforcement work performed both in the office and in the field.
Tasks/Duties
  • Make presentations to Code Enforcement Board, Homeowner Associations Groups, County Court, etc.
  • Receive and investigate complaints by telephone/person.
  • Drive City vehicle for the purpose of conducting code inspections to determine code violations.
  • Research City records and codes to determine owners, requirements, etc.
  • Prepare paperwork for warning notices, violations for citation and/or Code Enforcement Board.
  • Draft and present suggested changes to City Code of Ordinances and Land Development Code.
  • Conduct inspections of existing sites for compliance with the approved site plan, City Code of Ordinances and Land Development Code.
  • Pick up illegal signs placed in the ROW.
  • Review/process application and inspect sites for arbor permits, special event permits, tents, grand openings, open air sales and other similar etc.
  • Work after-hours and weekend code enforcement assignments as needed.
  • Respond and perform duties involving damage assessment as part of the City's emergency management response and recovery functions.
  • Completion of the required trainings as specified within the City's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs. Drive to and from various City sites.
    • (Drive to and from various City sites is required only if driving required and valid driver license requested as a minimum requirement.)

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid driver license. Must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience investigating/resolving complaints while providing appropriate customer service.
  • Two (2) years of college.
  • Database experience.

LEVEL I
- Florida Association of Code Enforcement Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement Class; and
Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Class
(Must be obtained within one (1) year of employment)
LEVEL II (Employee will receive a 1.5% in-band increase when they progress from a level I to a level II)
- Meet requirements of Code Comp. Officer Level I and;
- FL Association of Code Enforcement Legal Issues in Code Enforcement Class; and
Officer Safety & Field Applications Class
(Must be Obtained within two (2) years of employment)
LEVEL III (Employee will receive a 2.5% in-band increase when they progress from a level II to a level III)
- Meet requirements of Code Comp Officer Level I & II; and
- FL Association of Code Enforcement Certification as a Code Enforcement Professional.
Supplemental Information
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
