JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the position is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of special education teachers to facilitate learning and independent application of effective high leverage and evidenced based practices within district wide specialized special education classrooms in order to develop a consistent program model that leads to increased outcomes for students with disabilities. Position provides job-embedded support to teachers through planning, modeling, co-teaching, conducting classroom visits, analyzing data to support the implementation of a consistent specialized classroom model within the district. Position works in collaboration within the Student Success Enterprise to coordinate professional growth and development of special education teachers that teach within district wide special education specialized classrooms.
Position will provide training and support to Instructional Assistants within specialized programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Arizona Special Education Teacher certification
- Master Degree in Special Education (preferred)
- A minimum of (5) years of successful experience with special education procedures and compliance
- Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) processes
- Knowledge of all areas of exceptionality,
- Broad knowledge of evidence- based practices in supporting students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities an/or other IDEA special education eligibility
- Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
- Experience in providing professional learning in evidence- based practices to address the needs of students placed within specialized
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology and other instructional modifications
- Knowledge of Curriculum and Assessment to support students in specialized programs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to analyze behavior, collaborate with adults, and develop positive relationships with school administration, students and staff.
- Possess skills in data collection, development of effective intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports.
- Experience in implementation of evidence- based practices in professional development that support the academic and behavior growth in students.
- Develop a specialized classroom model to increase academic and instructional best practices that is aligned to State Standards.
- Provide assistance in Assistive Technology to increase access to the State Standards for Students with Disabilities.
- Create specially designed resources for specialized classrooms; visual schedules, choice boards, functional communication supports.
- Provide support to special education teachers in reviewing academic data, progress monitoring, and collaborating on students' strengths and needs to inform instruction and annual goals.
- Design and implement professional training and in-services to support the designated specialized classroom model.
- Consult with principals and staff concerning the individual needs of students.
- Assist with non-violent crisis intervention strategies such as de-escalation and physical restraints and district wide training.
- Assist school staff in the development and implementation of Universal Design for Learning, Differentiation and Specially Designed Instruction to support students in the Least Restrictive Environment, and provide training, as requested.
- Assist with the monitoring data to assist with the transition of students to the least restrictive environment.
- Assist with the transition of students with disabilities in specialized programs from 5th- 6th grade and 8th-9th.
- Serve as case manager for Privately Placed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or site administrator.
