Co-op/Internship Program for students with major/minor in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science and related fields
The Electrical and Automation Division of SMS group Inc. is involved in the design, programming, testing and commissioning (deployment) of process automation/control systems for various production lines in the metals industry such as, furnaces, casters, rolling mills, and process lines. The co-op/intern will support the detailed engineering process through a variety of tasks that involve software design, coding and testing of one or more Process Automation System (Level 2) projects under development.
The co-op/intern will be working with a team of engineers utilizing various software development tools and technologies, such as, Visual Studio (mostly C#, some C++), possibly Matlab, scripting, RDBMS (Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL), Version Control (Git), Issue Tracking (Gitea, Gitlab, Jira), full-stack development, web-based UI, .NET frameworks (WPF, WCF), TCP/IP, OPC, and more.

The co-op/intern may be assigned to assist in any of the following activities:
1. Code, debug and test software components used in
- Desktop or web-based application
- Database application
- Multithread, Multiprocess application
- Network application
2. Configure target systems (Windows Server, Databases) for testing or deployment
3. Execute and document test cases
4. Administer development infrastructure and tools
5. Create documentations
6. Process and analyze data generated by a Level 2 system deployed in production environment
The co-op/intern will be assigned a mentor who will provide training and guidance.
