Description:

The Compliance Officer’s key role is to build and maintain an effective Compliance Management System to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing financial institutions Specifically, the Compliance Officer’s responsibilities entail the following:

  • Collaborating with management on the development and implementation of policies and procedures aligned with federal and state laws, keeping the Institution at the forefront of compliance practices.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Education maintaining a regulatory compliance training program appropriate for all bank employees based on departmental needs and responsibilities.
  • Ensuring a sound compliance monitoring program is in place including the preparation of regular compliance reports for senior management and the board of directors.
  • In coordination with the CRO oversee and implement risk analysis/assessments related to compliance activities and serve as an in-house expert to provide compliance advice and guidance to Bank staff, addressing any compliance questions.
  • Participating with the Multi-Experience team in managing the consumer complaint policy including reasonable investigations, appropriate responses, and adequate reporting.
  • Assisting the CRO with the review and analysis of potential new products, services, or entry into new markets.
  • Lead the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) program and oversee compliance with the CRA policy. Coordinate with the Community Responsibility Officers and management on the CRA initiatives throughout the Bank’s multi state footprint.

PROVIDE EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND TEAM SUPPORT

Supervise and own the Compliance Department to ensure a team of skillful, knowledgeable staff who exceptionally support and assist and front-line employees from all Bank Divisions and other operational employees with compliance related inquiries and issues. Set a precedent of accountability and reliability for the team by specializing in the research, interpretation and clarification of regulatory requirements and leading by example. Collaborate with the training team to ensure that all employees have an appropriate amount of compliance training to mitigate risk and appropriately protect the bank from regulatory issues.

The Compliance Officer must be detail-oriented, analytical, methodical and demonstrate strong problem skills. Ensure reasonably complete and accurate information is included in all reporting and communication regarding regulations and bank policies. Demonstrate the ability to analyze data to identify potential compliance weaknesses and proactively resolve likely problems.

Title of Compliance Officer, AVP/Compliance Officer, or VP/Compliance Officer is dependent on education level and experience. Annual, job-specific training opportunities are assigned and/or available for timely completion. Some travel may be required.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to perform each crucial job requirement satisfactorily and a skills inventory is listed below. A Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3-5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents. Possesses professional communication and interpersonal skills to write and speak effectively both one-on-one and before groups of clients or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate to clients directly and effectively.


TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to use telephone systems and possess good digital literacy including email, internet, and intranet use. Prior experience or the ability to learn the core processing system, digital imaging system, report system, Microsoft Office programs, and any other computer programs pertinent to performing job duties.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve exciting problems involving several variables in a standardized situation.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully fulfill requirements of this position.


This position operates in a professional office environment with considerable time spent at a desk using office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Noise level is moderate with constant communication and interactions with others. Ability to travel on occasion to all market areas and attend seminars or training sessions offsite.
