Job description

Telesitting is remote video monitoring of our patients who need an extra set of eyes and redirection for their safety. We use a system called Avasure which allows the CNA team to watch up to 24 patients remotely. The most common types of patients we watch are fall risk, elopement, and patients who pull lines and tubes. The system allows for 2-way communication- we also have prompts in multiple languages and have a validated "STAT" alarm we use when a patient needs urgent assistance from floor staff.
Position: Certified Nursing Assistant II

Department: Remote Patient Telemonitoring
Schedule: 36hours/week, NIGHT shift, schedule includes every other weekend
Union: AFSCME

  • Note: For this specific position, priority will be given to applicants with prior telemonitoring experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) are responsible for providing direct clinical and support services to patients and families across the healthcare continuum. They function as effective members of the health care team by contributing to the efficient operation of the patient care unit, and accountability for fiscally sound, quality patient/family clinical outcomes. While under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice - CNAs participate in the delivery of patient care by performing a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients and their families.
  • Clinical Practice: Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients and their families.
  • Support Services: Work cooperatively with all health care team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.
  • Work Rules, Standards, & Competency Compliance: Act in a manner that supports a positive and collaborative work environment and that is congruent with established standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Care of Unit Environment, Equipment, Materials and Supplies: Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors and staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

This position requires -
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Current basic life support (BLS) certification (which includes CPR certification), or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

AND at minimum, one of the following -
  • One year of previous experience as a nursing assistant in an acute hospital setting, or
  • Current enrollment in a nursing program and has completed two cycles of clinical rotation or
  • Successful completion of an approved certified nursing assistant training or
  • Successful completion of approved certified Medical Assistant Training program.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills
    • Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language.
    • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the Medical Center is a plus.
    • Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
    • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
    • Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues, and changing organizational climate and personnel issues.
  • Collection & Interpretation of Patient Information
    • Ability to perform basic math and quantitative measurements (e.g., obtain height & weight, abdominal girth, measure urine output, calorie counts, etc)
    • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations.
    • Ability to pass clinical competency testing and basic math and abbreviation test.
  • Technology
    • Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information/data.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout the assigned shift. (e.g. independently transport average-sized patients via wheelchair and stretcher, etc.)
    • Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served.
