For over 70 years, the Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) is a high profile, nationally recognized non-profit in Phoenix, Arizona. FBC serves over 2,000 blind and visually impaired students of ALL ages, from birth to currently 102 years old. Our school-based services department supports students ages 3 to 5 on three Valley campuses and students in grades kindergarten through fourth grades at our Main campus. We are currently seeking candidates for a full time CNA position at our Preschool in Chandler. This position is full time, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Compensation is based on years of experience, starting at $19.25 per hour and up. Job purpose

The CNA provides health services to students enrolled in our private day school setting to support their health and participation in their individual education plan and classroom routine. Provides health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development.  Supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students. Participates as an active, effective member of the school health team in addressing the medical needs of all students.  Provides support to classrooms as needed. Performs emergency response roles as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer student daily medications, under the direct training and supervision of the Lead School Nurse.
  • Supervise and administer health screenings and provide necessary follow-up.
  • Support students that are medically fragile in their daily living at school.
  • Support students with medical and physical needs during the school day.
  • Support students’ individualized medical/emergency plans under the direction of the Lead School Nurse.
  • Observe, document, and communicate with the Lead School Nurse and Classroom Teacher regarding student health conditions.
  • Prioritize and administer basic first aid following the assessment of injured students.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, and the Lead School Nurse.
  • Serves as a health resource for students, staff, and families.
  • Acts as a substitute 1:1 Nurse when needed.
  • Acts as a substitute Classroom Assistant when needed.
  • Work as part of a team and handle critical situations safely and effectively.
  • Participate in annual and ongoing staff training.
  • Clinical practice, education, and documentation will comply with agency, local, state, federal policies, and standard of nursing practice.
  • Operate within HIPPA and FERPA boundaries by performing nursing care procedures in a manner that is non-disruptive to the educator and assigned students, as well as other students in classroom.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure and certification: Current and valid CNA license, CPR, First Aid, and Level IVP Fingerprint Clearance card (or ability to obtain clearance)

 

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices underlying professional nursing.
  • Principles and practices underlying the special field of school health.
  • Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health
  • Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies
  • State and local laws relating to health and social issues.
  • Rules and regulations regarding nursing standards in the state of AZ

 

Ability to:

  • Participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing.
  • Exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with students, parents, administrators, and multi-disciplinary school team and establish effective working relationships with all recipients.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs.
  • Knowledge of the organization and function of other health and welfare agencies in the community
  • Ability to recognize the conditions and needs of the children and make recommendations for corrective measures and communicate risks and concerns as appropriate.
  • Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and practices of professional nursing
  • Work independently with minimum supervision, be organized, manage time with efficiency and flexibility, analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to move body in many different ways in order to interact with and position students such as: stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling consistently throughout the day and on a daily basis.
  • Required to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to lift and transfer students with mobility limitations.
