Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Identify full bibliographic citations for materials needed by Hillsdale College faculty, staff, and students in their scholarly work, and discern the most efficient method of obtaining that material.
- Obtain materials in all formats from other libraries using OCLC’s WorldShare system, MeLCat, and the integrated library system.
- Fill requests for materials received through WorldShare and MeLCat using appropriate carriers and procedures.
- Oversee student assistant retrieval of requested materials in the Mossey collection and preparation of materials for shipment.
- Maintain compliance with the State of Michigan’s Library Privacy Act, and uphold library and business ethical standards concerning privacy and confidentiality.
- Maintain contact with faculty, staff, and students regarding their requests.
- Communicate with libraries worldwide regarding requested materials via email and phone.
- Compile reports related to MeLCat borrowing, and coordinate RIDES delivery of materials to and from libraries throughout the state.
- Coordinate billing of other institutions when Mossey materials are not returned as expected.
- Assist at circulation desk as needed.
- Arrive at 7:00 a.m. to open the library one day most weeks.
- Assist with faculty, staff, and student use of copiers, scanners, and microform readers as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Keyboarding skills appropriate to efficient word processing, email, and other computer applications.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Careful attention to detail, and ability to proofread written text for spelling and transcription errors.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Willingness and ability to learn new computer applications on a regular basis.
- Willingness to change routines as necessary and to experiment with new solutions to old problems.
- Willingness to participate in specialized training in relevant areas.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and to push a fully loaded cart of books.

Education and Experience:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree or sufficient experience relevant to the position. Knowledge of non-English languages is helpful, but not required.
