Position Title:  Network Engineer III (P3)

Role:

As a Network Engineer III you’ll join our Data & Digital team helping us lead, design, and build our digital transformation and define what’s next for our business—while working in an organization that’s continuously investing in data and systems.    

The Network Engineer III will enhance Crown Castle’s corporate enterprise networks and migrate functions and networks to public and hybrid cloud infrastructure. You will implement technology and recommend best practices in the application of new and existing LAN/WAN technologies and various complementary technologies. 

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with end users and senior management to define business requirements for complex systems development and gain buy-in for all infrastructure plans 
• Document and develop in-depth knowledge of company’s existing IT architecture/infrastructure and technology portfolio 
• Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility 
• Provide defense-in-depth protection from cyber security threats using firewalls and other network security devices. 
• Design, implement, and maintain network automation solutions to streamline network operations and improve service quality 
• Solve problems related to mission critical network services and build automation to proactively detect and prevent their reoccurrence
• Develop infrastructure as code on AWS using best practices and implementations for non-production and production environments 
• Apply a comprehensive understanding of network technologies and concepts. This includes routing, switching, firewalls, and network monitoring and management. Develop, test and upgrade enterprise network architectures withinAWS, and Microsoft Azure. 
• Upgrade, patch and maintain the overall network infrastructure upon which the private or hybrid cloud operates. 
• Work with engineers, architects and support teams to establish guides, procedures, training and otherdocumentation for auditsand compliance and to sustain the Cloud Network and its services. 
• Support the architecture, design, implementation and compliance efforts for effectiveCloud Network security. 
• When required, perform network integration work to support hybrid or multi-cloud models, such as connecting a private cloud with AWS.

Experience/Minimum Requirements: 

• 5+ year’s Network Engineering experience working across multiple network technology domains (e.g., routing switching, security, virtualization)
• 3+ year’s experience in troubleshooting SDWAN (Software Defined Networking) and Virtual Network Services
• 3+ year’s experience working with Cloud networking, security and administration
• Understands virtualization concepts and management, such as VMWare, KVM. Specific knowledge of the products and techniques for network function virtualization
• Understanding of the OSI model, including TCP/IP, client/server designs, routing protocols (including but not limited to OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), LAN technologies (including but not limited to Ethernet, Wireless, VLANs, NAT, ACLs, QoS), WAN technologies
• Understanding of network security products and principles Palo Alto Firewall, Global Protect, Panorama, Cisco Umbrella, Splunk, etc.
• Fluent with carrier connections (DWDM vs MPLS) and the configuration of these solutions
• Creation of configuration and automation scripts utilizing Python, Ansible and Terraform
• Implementing data center network principles, this includes vxlan EVPM based fabrics, Nexus switches, and various topology options (end of row, top of rack, etc.)
• Building, Configuring and Supporting of various AWS Services and Technologies with a strong understanding of CloudFormation, Lambda Functions, Parameter Store, Network ACL’s, Autoscaling groups and Route53
• Set up and support of AWS VPC’s VPC Peering, subnets
• Set up and support of Transit Gateways, NLB’s (Network Load Balancer), ALB’s (Application Load Balancers)
• Setup and use of AWS IPAM, for IP addressing in the Cloud as well as route propagation (ingress & egress)
• Direct Connect set up, associations and configurations, understanding of how ASN configuration works in the Cloud
• Site to Site VPN and Customer gateway set up, associations and configurations
• AWS Route table setup and configuration including prioritization. Set up of Dynamic and Static routing in the Cloud (User Defined Routing)

Working Conditions: This is a remote role with the expectation of on-site/in-person collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter and may require up to 15% travel.

For New York, Colorado, California and Washington residents- The hiring range offered for this position is  $90,000 - $130,000 annually. In addition to salary, employees are eligible for an annual bonus of up to 15% of annual salary and restricted stock. Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 18 days of paid time off each year and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
