A Law School seeks applicants for a two-year Clinical Teaching Fellowship. This Fellowship commences during the summer of 2024 and ends during the summer of 2026. It is designed for lawyers with at least three years of practice who are considering a career in law school teaching. The fellow will work with the Federal Appellate Clinic. Responsibilities include (i) supervising law students on cases and other projects, and serving as a mentor and role model to law students in the clinic; (ii) helping to design and teach clinic seminar classes and facilitating case rounds; and (iii) sharing in the administrative responsibilities of the clinic. All work will be conducted with the support of the clinical faculty and will focus on providing legal assistance to low-income clients. Candidates must be able to work both independently and as part of a team and must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $110,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Description of the Clinic
The Federal Appellate Clinic accepts appointments from federal courts of appeal and referrals from civil rights organizations to represent indigent (often incarcerated) clients in criminal, habeas, and civil rights appeals. In addition to representing clients on appeal, the clinic assists clients with ancillary matters as they arise, and it may engage in other advocacy projects related to subject matter areas in which the clinic litigates.

The successful fellowship candidate will have:
  • Experience with criminal or civil rights litigation;
  • Superior writing skills and a strong academic background;
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-J.D. legal experience;
  • Membership in the New York Bar (if not already a member of the New York Bar, must apply for admission by waiver or take the New York Bar exam); and
  • An interest in Clinical Teaching.
  • Previous appellate litigation experience is preferred.
