Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of this position is to provide clinical interventions to youth and families being serviced by The Johnston County Department of Social Services.
The Clinical Social Worker directs, coordinates and provides treatment to clients from ages five-years-old to foster youth up to age twenty-one as well as adult caregivers.
The role of the Clinical Social Worker is to complete comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnose mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders, and provide evidenced-based, trauma informed, outpatient therapy to individuals who have been exposed to stressful and or traumatic events and are experiencing emotional or behavioral complications.
The Clinical Social Worker serves as a highly skilled clinician within Johnston County Department of Social Services Adult and Family Services Section.
This position will report to the Clinical Social Work Supervisor for supervision and may receive higher level LCSW supervision as needed.
This position will work in a team with other clinical providers.
The Clinical Social Worker will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including child welfare staff, adult and family services staff, guardian ad Litem, court personnel, law enforcement, school officials, etc. who may have divergent perspectives/competing priorities.
This position is expected to practice the specified models of treatment with fidelity.
One of the roles of the Clinical Social Worker is to complete comprehensive clinical assessments, in doing so, the Clinical Social Worker is able to distinguish specific needs of each child in the custody of The Department of Social Services and provide treatment, recommendations, and referrals that will accommodate and best meet their needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Clinical Social Worker will participate in clinical staff meetings, and various and other multi-disciplinary meetings within the agency and community.
The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for completing comprehensive clinical assessments, developing recommendations for treatment needs, and assisting each youth and/or adult with establishing individualized treatment goals.
The clinical worker utilizes trauma focused behavioral therapy, and other evidence-based treatment modalities to engage youth and adults in the therapeutic process to decrease mental health symptoms and/or substance use, promote self-empowerment, and increase coping strategies.
The Clinical Social Worker will assist Johnston County DSS foster parents with therapeutic interventions and education to help support placement, assist with linking children in their home to community resources, providing psychoeducation regarding trauma, and supporting foster parents with adjusting to new placements and when children are reunified with biological parents.
The Clinical Social Worker provides an array of additional services to adults and youth within the Johnston County Department of Social Services facing complex family situations such as domestic violence, mental illness, substance use, physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse.
Applicant must be able to communicate and work effectively with individuals from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Applicant must have computer proficiency and must be flexible to accommodate varied task assignments and schedules.
Desired Education and Experience
Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervised social work experience as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
Prefer licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker LCSW.
