Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide clinical services to adult patients undergoing organ transplant. Functions as a Clinical Psychologist in the Mason Transplant Clinic. Coordinate and conduct pre-transplant evaluations of patients. The position is responsible for providing group and individual health and behavior interventions to patients throughout their transplant journey in both outpatient and inpatient medical settings. The Clinical Psychologist also collaborates as part of the interdisciplinary transplant team consisting of surgeons, medical providers, social work, nutrition, pharmacy, nurse coordinators, transplant leadership and other consultants.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Psychology (Psy.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Experience with addiction specialty

1 year of postdoctoral supervised clinical experience

One (1) year of clinical experience or two (2) years of post-doctoral experience in the area of Health Psychology in a medical setting.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Georgia. Preferred certification in addiction counseling.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Performs evaluation and psychosocial assessment for readiness for solid organ transplantation and candidacy on UNOS transplant waiting list.

2.Performance diagnostic examinations of the patient’s intellectual and psychological functioning and adjustment to the disability/illness within 24 hours of receipt of consult.

3.Collaborates with the patient, physician and members of the multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans and goals consistent with the needs of the patient.

4.Performs individual and group treatment interventions in a manner which meets the standards of the profession and changing needs of the patient.

5.Documents plans, interventions and patient’s response/involvement according to standards.

6.Identifies and documents discharge plans, which meet the needs of the patient and are consistent with resources available.

7.Psychological follow-up for patients and families as needed and screening during annual post-transplant follow-up.

8.Active interdisciplinary collaboration with the respective transplant teams to provide excellent care and improve the quality of life of patients and families.

9.Participates in ongoing quality monitoring, policy review and process improvement activities related to Psychology services.

10.Maintains updated knowledge of rules, regulations and standards in the field of Psychology and related matters of interest.

11.Ensures that patients, their families, visitors and employees are treated with kindness and respect.

12.Demonstrated teamwork and integrity in all work-related activities.

13.Attend Transplant Listing Meetings as a highly valued member of the team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

·Skill and ability to communicate effectively.

·Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization.

·Ability to screen for psychiatric issues and facilitate mental health treatment as needed.

·Ability to screen for health literacy and cognitive impairments.

·Ability to review and mobilize family support and other resources.

·Knowledge of managing psychopathology and substance abuse risks for patients and referral of any identified concerns related to family or support caregiver to appropriate services.

·Ability to assess motivation to improve, barriers to adherence and stage of change.
