Job Details:
The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AS) Pharmacist is responsible for participating in clinical, project management, precepting/training and quality improvement activities throughout the Bon Secours Charity Health System. This position will be responsible for both maintenance and development of best practices, including antimicrobial use optimization, monitoring of infection rates, documentation of AS interventions and clinical outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborates with the health system to ensure the prophylactic, empirical, and therapeutic uses of antimicrobial agents result in optimal patient outcomes.
• Works with the pharmacy, therapeutics committee, and Medical Board structures to ensure that the number and types of antimicrobial agents available are appropriate for the patient population served.
• Develops antimicrobial-use policies and minimizes the risk of resistant strains of microorganisms.
• Generates and analyzes quantitative data on antimicrobial drug use to perform clinical and economic outcome analyses.
• Works with the microbiology laboratory personnel to ensure that appropriate microbial susceptibility tests are reported on individual patients in a timely manner.
• Collaborates with the laboratory, infectious diseases specialists, and infection preventionists in compiling susceptibility reports for distribution to prescribers within the health system to guide empirical therapy.
• Provides experiential and didactic training for practicing health-system pharmacists, students, residents, and research fellows.
• Facilitates safe medication management practices for antimicrobial agents by utilizing efficient and effective systems to reduce potential errors and adverse drug events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
3 years’ experience in Health-System Pharmacy or completed PGY 1 Residency. Completion of PGY2 Residency in Infectious Disease or Antimicrobial Stewardship preferred.
Education:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy; Bachelor of Science degree with commensurate experience will be considered. Licenses / Certifications: Valid New York State Pharmacy license.
