The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Clinical Lead Nurse Practitioner serves as an experienced and knowledgeable clinician who can manage clinical programmatic development within a specific disease group in the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This position reports directly to the corresponding Nursing Coordinator.


Responsibilities

Clinical Nurse Practitioner

  • Conduct assessments and manage patients diagnosed with cancer, overseeing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions under a medical collaborative agreement. 
  • Develop, implement, and track patient education initiatives related to chemotherapy, blood replacement products, growth factors, and address psychosocial concerns of patients, families, and caretakers.
  • Collaborate with Infusion Center nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients receiving chemotherapy, blood products, growth factors, and supportive care.
  • Conduct patient history and physical exams, review laboratory results, order appropriate tests, provide discharge instructions and patient education, and monitor follow-up appointments.
  • Obtain consents, monitor pre and post-procedure patient status, develop care plans, document history, orders, notes, and ongoing patient evaluations.
  • Assure quality of care and standards are maintained, participate in daily rounds, and serve as a liaison to referring physicians and external transfers.
  • Assist physicians with directed duties and perform assigned tasks, including obtaining pre-certifications and prior authorizations for procedures/prescriptions.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to all members of the disease team.

Clinical Lead

  • Serve as the primary clinic resource for nursing staff, disseminating current evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Encourage personal growth and development of nursing staff, assist in expanding their knowledge in their fields of practice.
  • Develop and implement disease-centered clinical SOPs and Clinical Care Guidelines.
  • Assist Nursing Coordinator with orientation, training, and disease-specific in-services for new clinical nursing staff.
  • Participate in and lead quality improvement projects.
  • Act as the primary liaison/contact person for Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology nursing staff to address clinical challenges.

Additional Responsibilties

  • Approve and manage vacation requests, ensuring appropriate coverage and staffing during vacations, sick calls, emergency vacation days, and weather-related emergencies for Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology nursing staff.
  • Assist the nursing coordinator with yearly evaluations for staff in the named practices.
  • Assist with conflict resolution among clinical staff in collaboration with the Nursing Coordinator.
  • Participate in hiring interviews for new clinical staff in named practices.
  • Supervise and coordinate clinic schedules for Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology.
  • Liaise with division leadership and NewYork-Presbyterian administration in matters of clinic management, staffing, and infrastructure related to the named services.
  • Perform additional related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with one to two years of experience.
  • NP board certification.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Registered Nurse (RN) licenses.
  • AHA BLS certification.
  • Eligible for DEA certification.

    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
