Your Everyday
Ensure specimens are acceptable for testing.
Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate blood supplier.
Follow safety and infection control procedures, policies, and reports variances.
Determine appropriateness of manual methods, micro-methods, back-up procedures and initiates such procedures.
Compare results to previous results and investigate discrepancies.
Prepare and interpret gram stains and other wet and dry preparations for bacteriology and parasitology.
Perform all routine procedures including ABORH typing and retesting, antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing and serology procedures.
Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage.
Evaluate serological reactivity to assist with antibody identification and crossmatch incompatibilities.
Analyze quality control material for each procedure and records values.
Perform comparison studies of precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing procedures and reports.
Record and route proficiency surveys
Perform reagent quality control as specified in the quality control manuals.
Document Critical Call Value notification, duplicate checking, date and time of performance.
Perform proper processing, compliance, preservation and shipping of specimens.
The Must-Haves
Minimum:
Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a CLS - Generalist or as a CLS - Specialist.
Knowledge of acceptable medical laboratory testing theory and techniques.
Knowledge of laboratory standards set forth by CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, AABB and CLSI.
Ability to perform a wide range of routine to complex medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses and ability to interpret patient test results.
Available to work weekends and holidays.
