Position Summary: Responsible for delivering high quality customer service for all inquiries including verbally reporting critical test results, requesting additional information for completion of testing and investigating new or unusual test requests. Sorts and transports specimens to appropriate locations. Plants routine microbiology specimens, processes and orders specimens to be sent to reference laboratories. Operates standard laboratory equipment and some specialized equipment.
Skills required (if applicable): Must be able to use computer and have clerical skills to perform tasks. Must possess knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding as used in the Laboratory. Must have excellent customer service skills to interact with patients and visitors. Must be able to set up microbiology cultures.
Minimum Education Required:Graduate of Medical Assistant School or Specimen Processing Certificate or and associate degree or 2 years of college credits in chemistry, biology, or another natural science.
Minimum Experience Required: Prior laboratory experience or education in specimen processing and setting up cultures required.
Licensure/Certification Required:Act 169 (Criminal Background Check) clearance required.
Shift Schedule: Working eight-hour shifts on Monday and Tuesday only.
