Clinical Lab Aide

Clinical Laboratory Aide Position Summary:

This position will perform a broad range of duties. It will include duties in the microbiology and/or Histology departments including culture setup and gram stain preparations, processing of Histology and Cytology samples, ordering and registration of specimens, and miscellaneous duties as assigned.

A Day in the Life of a Clinical Laboratory Aide at MyMichigan Health:

• (50%)* Histology/Cytology: Orders testing in Co-Path, Preparation and processing of sample, Performs various staining and cover slipping, Assists Pathologist with grossing of samples.
• (50%)* Uses computer to register and accession specimens, queries information and prints reports. Assists all laboratory department where needed. Cleans glassware for department use.

Requirements We Are Looking For:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Organization skills, manual dexterity, customer service skills, communication skills, teamwork skills, and computer skills are required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Miscellaneous duties: answering telephones, communication and documentation of test results, department/Instrument maintenance duties, supply management, maintains department conditions, manages sample storage, and miscellaneous duties as needed for patient care and department quality.
• Registers specimens following all the admitting department protocols.

Orders tests in LIS/CoPath systems, processes samples accurately and efficiently to ensure specimen integrity and identity, distributes specimens to various departments for testing, trouble shoots labeling errors, etc.
