Job OverviewThe Clinical Informatics Specialist supports the Patient Care Services Department in achieving goals and objectives related to technology optimization, system integration, operations, and clinical excellence in Patient Care areas. Provides leadership, guidance, and support for the electronic medical record (EMR). Leads, participates and ensures informatics support in various work groups and committees. Collaborates with corporate and frontline staff to ensure regulatory requirements surrounding the use of the EMR are met. Provides guidance for enterprise-wide optimization projects and related governance processes to ensure consistent and timely adoption of system workflows. Provides consultative skills and subject matter expertise while collaborating on Patient Care Services projects and initiatives. Integrates informatics knowledge into processes, policies, practices and technologies. Participates in department and system teams as necessary in order to provide insight and guidance for advancing clinical integration and continuous system optimization. Identifies process challenges and collaborates with enterprise leaders, and knowledge experts in resolution. Benchmarks best practices and provides enterprise and individual hospital recommendations for process redesign, education or practice standards/policies. Participates in the identification and procurement of required clinical technologies to include identifying requirements, participating in standardization reviews, selection, implementation and post-implementation review.
Responsibilities- Provides critical analysis and evaluation of healthcare technology and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflows to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes. Incorporates evidence-based clinical knowledge into informatics practice. Ensures clinical practices and corresponding policies and procedures follow appropriate Practice Acts, Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable regulations and standards. Promotes safe, effective, and efficient use of healthcare technology.
- Serves as the liaison for healthcare technology efforts representing clinician needs. Responsible for providing current state analysis, ongoing operational impact assessment, process redesign implications/input throughout the planning, development, training, implementation, and evaluation of clinical information systems across Shriners Childrens. Continuously collects, analyzes and reports data in collaboration with others. Works with other team members in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and clinical workflows. Combines knowledge of Patient Care, Clinical Informatics and change management to address needs of the patient or clinician. Will review data in production and non-production domains to help improve clinical workflows, assist in testing, and troubleshoot system issues.
- Collaborates with others in project planning and development that supports Patient Care Services and organizational initiatives. Participates as a project leader focusing on initiatives supporting clinical services. Develops outcomes-oriented work plans and manages project activities and deliverables. Takes on project/engagement management responsibilities as required and assigned.
- Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, and implementation of informatics strategies to support and integrate quality Patient Care and professional practice. Disseminate information about Clinical Informatics science and practice to other healthcare clinicians. Represents and translates clinical practice information and needs to others. Supports Patient Care Services in the development of policies and procedures related to information technology and its application to clinical practice. Analyze computer and information technologies to determine applicability to clinical practice.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2+ years of clinical or ancillary service experience
- 2+ years of Clinical Informatics experience
- Bachelors Degree in Related Field
Preferred:
- 1+ years of Epic Inpatient Solution experience
- 1+ years of Epic Ancillary Solution experience
- Epic Certification
- Informatics Certification
- Masters Degree in related field
