Position Purpose
The Clinical Educator is a member of the MercyOne inpatient education team. The Clinical Educator is accountable for advancing and maintaining nurse competence, enhancing professional nursing practice, and supporting achievement of career goals. Instruction is building on the educational and experiential bases of nurses across the novice to expert continuum. He/she supports a shared leadership philosophy and advances the professional practice model for patient care services. Oversees and leads as Health Stream institution administrator, Clinical Care Coordinator for all students completing clinical hours within the hospital environment. Computer training for students and clinical instructors 2 times per year. Provides oversight of nursing assistant education and competency review. Provides support with staff education and orientation for Skilled, Rehab & Behavioral Health Unit's.Collaborates with nursing leadership on the development of educational programs.

• Utilize research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of patient care and educational offerings.
• Contribute to the positive image of nursing and enhance the magnet culture of the organization by modeling professional behavior both in the organization and in the community.
• Coordinates educational initiatives and activities with internal and external agencies.
• Acquires and maintains current knowledge and clinical competency in nursing professional practice and education and serves as a role model.
• Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development of personnel in accordance with the MercyOne Clinical and Professional Development Plan and Orientation and On-Going Competency Plan.
• Participates and involves the nursing staff in evaluative research activities and assures evidence-based practice.
• Provides and/or facilitates educational experiences for nursing and other students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field. Prefer MSN or relevant Master's Degree. Requires a current nursing license to practice in the state of Iowa.
• Requires a minimum of three years of experience in nursing practice.
• Ability to develop new and innovative education opportunities to meet the changing needs of the learner.
• Demonstrated excellence in assuming various roles of a professional nursing educator such as educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader preferred.
• Extensive theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in clinical specialty.
• Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Certified, as Basic Life Support.
• Active membership in a professional organization preferred.
