Position Overview
Full-Time, up to 40 hrs/week
As a frontline nurse leader, the Clinical Educator promotes excellence in clinical nursing care and contributes to the professional growth and development of Health Services staff through clinical education and professional development opportunities. This position will assist nursing staff in the acquisition of skills, knowledge and competencies through needs assessment and development of training programs. The Clinical Educator will serve as a departmental clinical expert, resource, and mentor for all staff within Health Services and be responsible for implementing education initiatives and priorities as established by Administration.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model, clinical nursing expert, change agent, mentor, and leader to the Health Services division within Northcrest Community.
- Maximize Northcrest's commitment to quality and service to our residents by assisting and providing training for our clinical and contracted staff, including orientation and onboarding to the Health Services departments in Assisted Living, Health Center, Home Health and Heartwood House.
- Plan, develop, coordinate and deliver a variety of education programs for clinical staff to meet specific goals and competency requirements in conformance with departmental and organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Develop an annual educational calendar, which addresses gaps in competencies, provides annual training plans, conducts monthly in-services, and promotes essential competencies to improve care service levels for our residents.
- Assess quality of care through staff and resident assessments and audits to identify areas of improvement or areas of risk. Develop and implement training plans for quality assurance and improvement to underperforming areas.
- Perform a mock survey in accordance with State regulations to determine areas of deficiencies. A plan of correction shall be developed and implemented to remedy any areas of deficiencies.
- Orient and provide continuous training on the thorough and accurate use of electronic health records to nursing and aide staff.
- Serve in the on-call rotation.
- Assume the role of Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse when requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
The Clinical Educator must possess:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and in good standing with the State of Iowa.
- Demonstrated competency in teaching and applying principles of teaching/learning with adults.
- Progressive work experience in health care; preference will be given for experience in senior housing and long-term care.
- Trainer certification for CPR and BLS (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment).
