Job Summary and QualificationsWhat you will do in this role:
The Clinical Education Specialist collaborates with the system educators, facility leadership, and internal and external sources, to enhance clinical practice, promote exceptional care standards, support recruitment and retention within the Gulf Coast Division (GCD) facilities. The position participates in the on-boarding process, development and education of clinical staff, consultations with identified facilities, units or business lines, development of training modules, simulation and/or curriculum, and role modeling service excellence behaviors to improve the patient experience and deliver excellent quality education.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in facilitation of New Graduate Orientation.
- Facilitate the improvement of clinical practice through the use of clinical expertise, education of staff, simulation, consultation, committee involvement, and role modeling.
- Promote Evidenced Based Practice and clinical judgment in nurses. Prepares monthly reports as needed for tracking purposes.
- Works with the VP Education to develop and maintain an annual plan for competency assessments and rolls out to facilities in all areas. Meets regularly with leadership, as appropriate, to review program goals and objectives. Identifies internal and external sources to meet facility needs.
- Plans and monitors individual orientation of Preceptees in collaboration with Nurse Educators, management, designees, and other Preceptors.
- Assesses Preceptees’ learning needs and provides the appropriate educational opportunities to facilitate and support the role transition of Preceptees to fully functional nurse.
- Guides and assists Preceptees with patient care, time management skills, organization and decision making.
- Provides ongoing support to Preceptees including socialization, communication, peer support and clinical support.
- Bachelor' s degree in nursing (BSN).
- Three years of clinical experience in an acute care setting and experience with formalized course development and instruction.
- Texas RN license
- Current BLS Provider
- Recent health care experience
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and/or TNCC Instructor
- 90% traveling to multiple HCA Houston division facilities
- Comfortable teaching large groups of RN learners
- Be available to RN learner who work both day and night shifts
- Attainment of wide variety of people skills including a service orientation as demonstrated through examples of written and oral communication. Demonstrated experience in areas of planning and organization.
- Basic proficiency in computer applications required.
- Must possess excellent communication, problem solving and leadership skills; must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively.
Occasional/ Intermittent Travel Required
