  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Clinical Coordinator position is critical to the oversight for clinical care and coordination and is the first line of nursing leadership on a nursing unit.  The Clinical Coordinator reports to the director of a department and is next in the chain of command in the absence of the department director. The Clinical Coordinator role models the mission, vision, and values of MHSC. As a part of nursing leadership at MHSC, the Clinical Coordinator complies with all relevant evidence-based practice policies, procedures, and guidelines as well as all relevant regulatory and accreditation standards.
    • The Clinical Coordinator is a Registered Nurse (RN) accountable for facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, appropriate use of resources and problem-solving. The Clinical Coordinator assists the director of a department with all aspects of nursing leadership and management, with the exception of determining and exerting employee corrective action and corresponding activities.
    • The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the delivery of patient care activities, professional education, and quality improvement activities, standards of care and practice, compliance with regulations and directs staff accordingly.  The Clinical Coordinator has responsibility for patient care as determined by each unit’s staffing plan.  The Clinical Coordinator assists with staff scheduling, shift assignments, and responds to immediate issues.  The Clinical Coordinator attends meetings, facilitates new employee orientation on the patient care unit, participates in the hiring process, and assists in the performance evaluation process. Clinical Coordinators work collaboratively with members of the health team and other departments to resolve issues.
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education:
      • High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current Wyoming RN License in good standing. When initially hired into the role the Clinical Coordinator can have an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN). The Clinical Coordinator may also have a Master’s Degree or DNP/PhD. If the Clinical Coordinator has an associate’s degree in nursing it is expected that he or she will complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within 6 years. It is also encouraged that the Clinical Coordinator obtains a master’s degree or PhD/DNP. It is preferred that the Clinical Coordinator has two years of clinical experience or has demonstrated progressive accountability and leadership abilities. Certification in the area of clinical expertise or nursing leadership is preferred within 2 years of accepting the position. Competencies such as BLS, ACLS, are unit dependent and determined by the clinical area.

      • Demonstrates ability to clinical problem solve and lead others in coordination of patient care through the patient care system. Communicates well using professional techniques and a variety of communication tools. Able to manage projects, demonstrate time management skills and organizational skills. Works as a team member or leader in a variety of situations and teams. Demonstrates responsibility, accountability and authority commensurate to position. Uses critical and creative thinking skills and tools. Is self-directed and motivated to work toward better outcomes in a situation. Role models customer service skills. Promotes professional nursing image within the hospital and community.
