Position #20224:Lead Custodian/Day Shift

Posting Dates: 2/2/2024 – 2/8/2024 (Or Until Filled)

Location: Hawthorne Elementary School

Hours: 8 hours per day, 260 days per year


JOB DESCRIPTION

The person in this position will maintain the school buildings and efficiently manage the facility as to usefulness, appearance, safety hazards, cleanliness, and minor repairs not requiring a skilled tradesman.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED


  • Minimum one year of previous and successful experience as an Elementary Lead Building Custodian or equal experience as approved acceptable by the Kennewick School District.
  • Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a Building Custodian in the responsibilities listed under the headings “Essential Duties and Responsibilities”, General Requirements”, “Physical Demands”, and “Work Environment”.
  • Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  • Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
  • Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  • The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
  • Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the district’s needs and deadlines.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with fellow employees, other lead persons, district staff, and administrator.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Physically able to do the required work, including: heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work closely, and communicate with, Building Administrator, school staff, other lead persons and custodians, the Custodial Supervisor, and the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as required meeting work quality and quantity expectations.
  • Order supplies and stock closets as needed.
  • Ensure adequate cleaning equipment as required.
  • Assist other custodial staff as needed/required to ensure a safe and sanitary facility.
  • Support the breakfast/lunch program with set-up, clean-up, as required.
  • Lock/unlock building as required.
  • Complete Substitute Custodial Evaluation Forms and turn them into the Custodial Supervisor as required.
  • Perform monthly inspection of fire extinguishers. Initial monthly, generate work order as needed.
  • Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendar-based preventative maintenance/Asset Preservation system.
  • Perform minor maintenance and secure facility emergencies as required. ie. – change lights, replace ceiling tile, replace dispensers, flag holder’s, turn off utilities, change filters, etc.
  • Assist Building Administrator and Custodial Supervisor with creating summer and other break period cleaning schedules, day-to-day beat schedules, and other misc. work performed in facility.
  • Assist Building Administrator in acquisition/removal of surplus furniture and equipment.
  • Respond to teacher/Principal requests in a timely manner and to the best of ability.
  • Maintain grounds, flower beds, sidewalks, and garbage cans in close proximity to building.
  • Ensure interior/exterior entries are clean and presentable each and every day.
  • Perform facility classroom/office moves as directed by Building Administrator.
  • Perform snow and ice removal as needed.
  • Maintain carpet and resilient flooring throughout building.
  • Remove balls from roof weekly.
  • Perform Integrated Pest Management as required.
  • Generate work orders in the School Dude work order system for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
  • Work with other Leads to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain facility manual to ensure the latest building information is available to self and others.
  • Attend monthly Lead Custodian meetings and other trainings as required.
  • Perform monthly safety inspections, generate work orders as needed.
  • Serve on school Safety Committee.
  • Assist/maintain chemical inventories in building.
  • Assist/Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets in building.
  • Respond to after-hour’s emergencies as needed.
  • Interact with vendors, inspectors, Contractors, etc. as required.
  • Performs other related jobs and duties as assigned.
