The City of Forney is looking for a Summer Intern to assist the Engineering Department. The intern will be working closely with both the engineering staff and inspection field crews. The Intern will benefit from hands-on experience, technical training, mentoring from a professional staff, and working within a positive team work environment.
- Contribute to the preconstruction Civil Engineering design, planning, modification, permitting, and analysis for multiple projects ranging in size and scope.
- Solve complex problems, assist City Staff, and collaborate across disciplines to produce our clients' visions for the future built environment.
- Develop familiarity with the federal, state, and local regulations, as well as City of Forney practices, procedures, and standards.
- Specific duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need.
- Position will work 40 hours per week.
- Performs duties in a safe efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
- Assists in the preparation of project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Assembles engineering documents including drawings, maps, specifications, and reports.
- Attends and participates in meetings.
- Reviews project plans and specifications
- Prepares CADD drawings.
- Contributing to departmental goals and objectives
- Suggests solutions to Engineering issues and challenges.
- Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports.
- Assists with writing grants, procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc.
- Contributes to a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Provides excellent customer service to City of Forney internal and external customers.
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Must have or obtain a valid driver license.
- Must be enrolled or accepted in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university.
- Official transcripts must be sent directly from your academic institution and must include your most recent academic achievements and overall GPA.
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
