Description
Seeking self-motivated college students with a positive attitude and work ethic. Internships geared toward undergraduate or graduate students seeking to expand professional knowledge and skills in the Engineering and/or Environmental Services field. Responsible for supporting division with a variety of interesting and meaningful tasks including planning, designing, administration, and inspection, along with general office work.
Examples of Duties
- Civil Engineering-specific: Applicants should have a base knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, including trigonometry or math used in engineering practices. Work may involve assisting with review and interpretation of construction plans and specifications, CAD (MicroStation) drawing, cost estimates, utility investigation, contractor coordination, measuring quantities, drainage investigations, preparing reports, research, traffic studies, field surveying and other related tasks. Assist with projects involving roadway paving, water mains, sanitary sewers, storm water, sidewalks and other public improvement projects.
- Environmental Services-specific: Applicants should have a base knowledge of environmental practices, including chemistry or math and sciences used in the environmental field. Work may involve working with construction plans, cost estimates, utility investigation, and contractor coordination, measuring quantities, sewer and water investigations, preparing reports, research, field data collection and other related tasks. Assist with projects involving water mains, sanitary sewers, refuse, water and wastewater improvement projects. Work with laboratory staff in review of quality control data.
Qualifications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide professional customer service
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to make complex calculations and prepare and interpret plans
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and CAD drafting methods preferred
- Work indoors and outdoors, possibly in adverse weather conditions, with extensive walking
- Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student for fall of 2024, earning a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a similar field (upon selection, eligibility verification from the student's academic advisor will be required)
- 18 years of age and a valid driver's license at the time of hire
Supplemental Information
Starting pay is $18/hr. Expected to work Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week, approximately mid-May to mid-Aug. Work over school breaks may also be available If selected, successful completion of a background check, drug screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation will be required.
