Job Summary
This position is advertised from the minimum to maximum hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time offer.
**NOTE: Yuma County reserves the right to underfill the Senior Civil Engineer(Grade 137 Min: $38.34/hr. - Max: $61.83/hr.) as a Civil Engineer I until such time as the successful candidate completes all education and training requirements.
NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, performs professional work of moderate difficulty related to construction, engineering, flood control, highway, bridges, infrastructures, and field and office activities. This is the entry-level class of the Civil Engineering series. This position has department specific responsibility.
Example of Work
(Illustrative Only) Reviews and interprets plans, specification, and reports; reviews and approves various grading and improvement plans for conformity with County regulations and guidelines; assists in the design, planning, preparation, coordination, and inspection of construction, flood control, and engineering projects; reviews and approves various grading and improvement plans for conformity with county regulations and guidelines; interprets regulations, directives and county policies relating to administration, planning and development of Civil Engineering projects; inspects and examines project records, field notes, computations, and documentation; confers with contractors on construction and planning problems encountered in the field; inspects and monitors construction of projects under contract such as: structure, structural steel, concrete, pre-stressed bridges, and pipe laying to assure compliance with design plans; makes field tests; calculates estimates for projects planned or under construction; performs topographic construction and land surveying for new projects; prepares various reports required for engineering assignments; advises field personnel on difficult technical problems, regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; OR ninety (90) semester hours of college level course work in Civil Engineering or closely related field, and three (3) years of construction management and Civil Engineering experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires successful completion of a background check. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; the principles, theory and practice of Civil Engineering, construction, and surveying; the application of Civil Engineering principles to the problems of surveying, design, construction, engineering, flood control, traffic control studies, and material testing; methods, procedures and techniques for evaluating construction contract compliance; technical drafting principles, and interpreting and utilizing engineering plans, maps and specifications.
Skill in: Analyzing and evaluating technical engineering data and construction documentation; interpreting and utilizing engineering plans, maps, specifications and preparing field reports; application of engineering theory to field and office problems; preparing reports and checking designs, details, estimates, plans, and specification of engineering projects; establishing effective working relationship with consultants, contractors, other agencies and the public; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; using computers and advanced level software applications; coordinating the work of a unit with a general program or a specific problem.
Ability to: Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; planning and organizing work; lift 10 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from three (3) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employee's needs, dependents or families.
Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 900 deductible with $10.00 Wellness Incentive. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $20 monthly premium reduction.
Plan Option 2: Preferred Provider Option B (PPO) or PPO B 1,200 deductible with $10.00 Wellness Incentive. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $20 monthly premium reduction.
Plan Option 3: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) or HDHP-HSA with Wellness Incentive.
HDHP-HSA Wellness Incentive for Employee Only option can receives upto $240.00 annual contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
