JOB DESCRIPTION
CIRCULATION ASSISTANT: Part Time
A Circulation Assistant is the “first impression” of service from the library to customers. A CA must enjoy working with people and solving problems, as well as doing routine tasks such as checking in and checking out materials. This person must interpret library policies to customers and apply those policies fairly to all customers.
Reports to: Director
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work the Circulation Desk as scheduled. Tasks include but are not limited to:
· checking in and checking out materials
· using the cash register to collect fees for copier, laminating, memorials, etc., as well as issuing refunds when appropriate.
· assisting patrons with copying, faxing, and laminating, etc.
· assisting patrons with reserves/holds and ILL’s
· registering patrons
· answering the telephone
· organizing book carts
· checking book drop
2. Assist patrons in locating materials.
3. Assist patrons with reference questions by seeing that their question is answered, whether it be locating an item or referring their question to another staff member, such as the Reference Librarian. Also assist patrons with any other library services needed.
4. Assist patrons with the use of the Public Access Catalog (PAC), internet use and other computer questions. Assist patrons with PC Reservation and Print Release software and other equipment. If unable to provide needed response, contact other staff for assistance.
5. Monitor the appropriate use of the Internet.
6. Monitor use of the main library room. Keep the general overall view of the library neat and safe at all times, providing upkeep as necessary.
7. Keep technology skills updated for using the library’s electronic resources.
8. Perform other tasks requested by a Circulation Coordinator:
· Post announcements for closings for Holidays at Circulation Desk area and on exterior doors.
· Keep “ Book Sale” stocked.
· Assist Children’s Librarian when requested.
· Shelve and “read” shelves as necessary or requested.
9. Be willing to perform any manner of tasks to keep the library operating smoothly and
efficiently.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
§ Education/Experience
High School Diploma or higher.
Public library experience preferred.
Schedule Requirement
Work number of hours scheduled which will include some weekend hours.

Strong ability to serve the public in a friendly, tactful, respectful, and effective manner.
A variety of strong technology skills.

Pay: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
