Children's Library Clerk – Part Time
Under the direction of the Adult Services Coordinator, the part-time candidate will work with various library departments, but with a special focus on Children and Youth Services. The ideal candidate will assist in staffing library desks, assist a wide range of patrons in selecting books and other Library materials and deliver programs like storytimes.
Evening and weekend work is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Staff Children's public service desks and provides excellent patron services, with a special focus on community.
- Assist Library users of all ages in locating and selecting a diverse collection of Library materials and information.
- Assist Children's Coordinator with storytimes, programming, Summer Reading Program, and hosting Library events for babies, kids, and teenagers.
- Maintain understanding of Library practices, standards, and trends
- Communicate effectively with Library staff and participates in interdepartmental projects (some work in adult circulation may be required, on occasion!)
- Evening and weekend work required
- Performs other duties as assigned
You are:
- A High School graduate- some college education preferred
- Have experience with working with the public and providing great customer service (especially if you have experience with children or teens!)
- Find it easy to work with technology such as computers, phones, and tablets, and can troubleshoot basic technology problems as needed.
- Are creative and are great at coming up with new, inventive programs that best serve the Sanibel Island community
- Are outgoing and enjoy helping people in an atmosphere where every day is different
- Willing to be cross-trained in a variety of different departments within the Library and pitch in as needed.
