Essential Functions & Position Duties:
· Develop working relationships with childcare providers (home and center) to support
them in improving the quality of services to infants and toddlers (birth to 3 yrs.)
· Provide onsite consultation, technical assistance, and training regarding infant and toddler
development to childcare providers (training may be conducted on nights and weekends)
· Frequently communicate with providers to offer resources and information in person,
via website, phone, and email
· Work in partnership with providers, other specialists, and agencies to assess and
identify Infant Toddler program needs and concerns
· Provide consultation, technical assistance, and training to providers specific to
infant/toddler needs and those who are involved with ExceleRate Illinois or have
expressed an interest and needed support at different stages in the process
· Assist in facilitating cohorts by providing training, technical assistance, reflective
practice, and consultation
· Maintain documentation of the contract-specific classroom and program assessment
tools, in which a score threshold is required. The specialist will use this knowledge to assist childcare providers with self-assessment and developing continuous quality
improvement plans
· Attend workdays, meetings, events, etc., required for the position
· Shall be an Approved Trainer for the Gateways to Opportunity Registry within twelve
(12) months of employment
· Participate in required Trainer of Trainers (TOT) and Provide training to providers
on that specific curricula
· Excellent written and oral communication and tactful interpersonal skills required
Education & Experience Requirements:
Education required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in child development, early childhood education, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with 18 hours required in Early Childhood Coursework. Related fields include Child Development, Child Psychology/Behavioral Sciences, Family Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Elementary Education, Child Welfare, Family Services, and Human Development.
Experience required: A minimum of 3 years paid experience working in a childcare setting, including experience required by the ECE Credential-Level 5 and Infant Toddler Credential-Level 4; at least two years must be in an Infant Toddler childcare setting.
Experience preferred: Experience working in CCR&R or a similar agency, providing training and consultation, and experience with the Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) and ExceleRate.
Non-Essential functions of the position:
- Assisting with coverage for other staff when absent, serving on state and local committees,
and attending state workdays.
- Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus
or designated location.
