DescriptionThe Child Support Services area of the Human Services and Public Health department is seeking multiple Principal Child Support Officers to join their team. The Child Support Services division is responsible for establishing orders for Child Support, daycare, and medical support, initiating actions to establish paternity, enforcing court orders, and reviewing cases for legal action. Remote employees may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable.

Based on the business needs for this position, individuals must reside in Minnesota or have approval to work from a state authorized by Hennepin County as approved for out-of-state remote work. For a complete listing of allowable states, click here. Candidates must currently reside in or be willing and able to relocate to Minnesota or one of the approved states.

Employees living out of state are responsible for all travel expenses when required to come on-site. Individuals who do not reside in or are not willing to relocate to one of these states will not be considered.Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.About these position types:These are full-time, benefit-earning positions.These positions are internally classified as a Child Support Officer, Principal.Click here to view the job classification specification for Child Support Officer, Principal.Qualified candidates will be invited via email to take a math and writing assessment online, on your own computer. Assessments will take approximately 60 minutes.In these positions, you will:* Initiate action to establish financial obligations and/or paternity and prepare cases for ongoing enforcement activities to assure appropriate distribution of payments.* Conduct client interviews involving sensitive issues and explain program requirements.* Perform legal activities to include preparing case facts, creating legal documents, attending court hearings, and interpreting court orders.* Work with third parties (county attorneys, private attorneys, financial institutions, and/or other jurisdictions) to secure Child Support.* Prepare reports and respond to inquiries; collect and report workload data.* Perform program-specialized functions (e.g., lead work, training, client advocacy).Need to have:* One of the following:* 18 months or more of experience as a Senior Child Support Officer.* Approved equivalent public sector experience.Nice to have:* One or more years of customer, public, or social service experience.* Experience as a Child Support Officer in a Minnesota county* Experience with:* Collecting financial obligations and/or being a debt collector.* Utilizing a computer and mainframe computer systems.Ability to:* Perform mathematical calculations.* Learn, understand, and clearly explain complex Child Support regulations to many different audiences via phone and written communications.* Work collaboratively and effectively with other service areas.* Maintain confidential data and comply with data privacy requirements.* Respond positively to the challenges of high-volume work and changing priorities; de-escalate conflict situations and resolve problems.Candidates with fluency in another language, in addition to English, are encouraged to apply.
