Job Summary
IEEE is investing in bright, agile and diverse talent to contribute to our goal of innovating our business and creating a superior customer experience. We're actively seeking a talented Sr Director, Chief Technology Officer to join our Chief Information and Digital Office (CIDO) team reporting to the CIDO. This role can be based out of our Piscataway, NJ headquarters with a hybrid work mode.
The successful Chief Technology Officer (CTO) candidate will ensure the organization's core technology is operating efficiently, securely and in a cost-effective manner. This position will work with leaders to define, implement and support the best technology solutions and processes to meet the needs of IEEE Staff, members and volunteers in core services such as cloud and on-premise infrastructure, networking, help desk, end-user support and office productivity (email, video conferencing, productivity tools, etc.). The CTO will ensure the proper environment is available to support IEEE's digital roadmaps in data, application and operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • How You Will Make An Impact
  • Define a service-based operational capability based on customer service
  • Collaborate with Architecture & Innovation, Delivery, Security and Data teams to ensure IEEE’s operational model supports their respective roadmaps
  • Develop and follow ITIL processes and frameworks to establish consistent operational services
  • Standardize and drive efficiencies into core services tools and processes
  • Investigate create ways to improve the delivery of core services to the organization
  • Partner with outside vendors and solutions to improve IEEE’s technology capabilities
  • Develop a high-functioning help desk and desk side support capability
  • Investigate ways of using digital tools to improve the level of service of the help desk and desk side support teams including the use of AI, Chatbots, Knowledge ware and self-service
  • Utilize problem management principles to identify and drive down recurring issues and incidents.
  • Drive standards around end user equipment and tools
  • Attract and retain talent
  • Establish and manage a high-performing team in IEEE’s core services
  • Advise recruiting staff on attraction strategy for key roles within the team
  • Develop capabilities
  • Develop core services roles, skillsets and career paths
  • Participate in and ensure performance management discussions
  • Support and ensure capability building and training efforts
  • Manage stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other functions to ensure communication and value attainment
  • Manage tight relationship across divisions and functions that make up IEEE
  • Galvanize stakeholders for change management
  • Manage relationships to start-up and vendors for project co-operation and recruitment

Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Req
  • Master's or other advanced degree Pref
Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent Req
  • Advanced degree a plus Pref
  • 15+ years management role in business Req
  • 5+ years in executive/strategy role Pref
  • 12-15 years in leading technical teams Req
  • 5 years of infrastructure, help desk and networking leadership Req
  • 5+ years of public/private cloud management Req
  • Well versed in ITIL and COBIT frameworks in a global context Req
  • Recognized and respected leader whose name can help attract talent Req
  • Strong and proven experience leading and executing an IT Strategic Plan and roadmap Req
  • Experience in building and managing cross-functional teams Req
  • Experience in large-scale, multi-year transformation and capability building efforts Req
  • Experience in digital transformations and effective digital capability building Req
  • Ability to execute a strategy across a complex enterprise comprised of numerous divisions and functions Req
