UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital which has served generations of patients in south Louisville. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1874, the hospital offers a full range of vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative and 24/7 emergency services including 24/7 STEMI service.
Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is home to UofL Health – Weight Loss Care, the region’s only weight-loss management program utilizing the Lap-Band® System. In addition, the hospital provides the Orbera® gastric balloon procedure. The hospital has been recognized as one of the first health care facilities in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction® Center for bariatric surgery.

Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as the organization’s lead operations executive responsible in the development of the integrated mission, strategic plan, budget, resource allocation, operational plans and policies. The COO has responsibility and authority to provide leadership, direction, and administration of all aspects of the organization’s operation and the activities of its related entities to ensure compliance with established goals and objectives and the realization of quality, economical health care services, and other related lines of business, while meeting the directives established by the UofL Health’s mission, vision and values statements.
• Provide leadership and direction for the overall planning functions at UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.
• Effectively interact with board members, administrative team, management team, staff employees, physicians, UofL Health counterparts, outside consultants (i.e., architects, engineers, contractors) in the development and implementation of planning initiatives (programmatic; service line development; facilities planning).
• Leads and directs process and performance improvement teams to increase efficiency and effectiveness of departments, division, and operations while broadly promoting standardization of processes across all activities
• Implements appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and accrediting standards.
• Develops and implements training and coaching programs for department managers and career development opportunities for staff.
• Participates in evaluation of new and existing programs and departments related to quality of service, patient satisfaction, revenue generation and expense management.
• Monitors departments’ productivity, analyzing and trending it with specified outcomes such as turnover, employee injuries, patient falls, seclusion/restraint use, etc.
• Works in collaboration with leadership on planning process and to identify and promote opportunities in healthcare that enhance the operations at UofL Health.
• Provides leadership and vision to staff in areas of responsibility ensuring UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Quality of Standards are maintained.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships in the professional and civic communities.
• Participates in Community activities and professional organizations to promote the services, programs, and mission at UofL Health.
Education Required:
• Master’s Degree in healthcare, business of related field.
Experience Required:
• At least five years’ experience as a Hospital VP of Operations or COO preferred. Depth of knowledge and demonstrated expertise in healthcare strategies, financial improvement, quality, safety and patient experience best practices
