Job Summary and Qualifications

A culture-first leader, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other executive leaders to provide strategic and operational leadership to achieve College objectives in supporting growing nursing workforce needs, as well as expanding access to nursing education. The COO serves as a member of the CEO’s Executive Team and Cabinet and has primary responsibility for the College’s enrollment functions and campus operations. Departments supervised include the Call Center, Marketing and Communications, Campus Operations, Human Resources, Regulatory Affairs, Construction & Real Estate, and Centralized Shared Services. The COO operationalizes and supports the College’s Building the Lamp culture, ensures alignment around its culture, and drives the vision of a world-class experience for its employees and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to the Enrollment Management, creating, managing, and implementing initiatives and operating processes designed to meet and exceed new student enrollment goals while always maintaining the College’s core values.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight to Human Resources to ensure that recruitment, onboarding, talent/leadership development, total rewards/recognition, and organizational design are optimized to achieve growth, culture, and student and colleague experience objectives.
  • Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to Campus Operations, as well as launching new campuses through a scalable, regional support model to ensure operational excellence, efficiency, and best-in-class student experience.
  • As a key member of the New Location Operations Council, ensure effective campus design, construction, regulatory approvals, staffing, and post-implementation support, monitoring, and success.
  • Provides strategic leadership in ensuring regulatory compliance is achieved in all facets of the organization, from accreditation to state and federal regulation.
  • Ability to optimize team performance through clear communication, resolution and problem solving, operational accountability, team unity, financial accountability, and talent development.
  • Cultivates talent of leaders to drive organizational performance that leads to ongoing excellence and effective growth of the business while maintaining the highest integrity and compliance.
  • Cultivates relationships and collaborates across multiple HCA Healthcare stakeholders, including Clinical Services Group, Information Technology Group, Human Resources Group, HealthTrust Workforce Solutions, to support growth and expansion in new markets to support the nursing pipeline for HCA Healthcare facilities.
  • Builds a culture of continual process improvement, identifies, analyzes, and executes on opportunities to drive efficiencies and improve student and/or colleague experience through comprehensive process improvements, leveraging HCA Healthcare scale and expertise, and implementation of innovative technologies and solutions.
  • Provides strategic oversight in working with architects, designers, and construction to create inspiring learning environments.
  • Contributes to the development and provides leadership in implementation of the College’s strategic plan.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or delegated by the Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements

Education: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis typically acquired through the completion of an advanced degree such as an MBA or other graduate degree.

Experience: Ten (10) years’ experience in senior or executive leadership, preferably related to proprietary higher education in a multi-campus organization.

Skills/Competencies: Must demonstrate expertise in negotiation, strategic planning, and leading change and possess strong communication skills, business and financial acumen, negotiation skills, and exhibit a focus on the student and employee experience. Must be highly skilled in building relationships with leaders, staff, and external constituents.

Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment: Travel is required.
