BAMSI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges. Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI) was incorporated on March 21, 1975 as South Shore Multi-Services Inc., under Chapter 180 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as a not-for-profit human service organization. On July 9, 1975, it changed its name to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. It was formed for the development, coordination, and delivery of integrated human service programs, and according to its website, its mission is “to empower people and enrich their lives, through compassionate support and diverse services, one individual, one family a time.” BAMSI employees up to 2,000 people and operates adult, child, and family services, assisting approximately 30,000 individuals each year in Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic HR Leadership:
    • Serve as the Human Resources leader for the Agency and key advisor to senior management.
    • Serve as a trusted partner to Peter Evers, Chief Executive Officer and Dennis Orsinger, CFO.
    • Develop and drive an integrated people strategy that aligns with, and actively underpins, BAMSI’s business strategy of growth, development, and culture transformation.
    • Provide input on organizational design, workforce planning, and succession planning.

  • Acquisition Integration, Talent Management, and Learning & Development:
    • Support the integration of new acquisitions and/or merger and all business opportunities.
    • Oversee recruitment efforts to attract and retain all support staff.
    • Develop and manage effective onboarding, training, and L&D programs.

  • Employee Relations, Engagement, and HR Business Partnerships:
    • Foster a positive workplace culture that promotes employee engagement and satisfaction.
    • Ensure employee concerns are addressed and conflicts mediated to ensure a harmonious work environment.
    • Provide guidance in a unionized environment and ensure strict compliance with CBA.
    • Determine key metrics and proven efforts relating to increased retention rates for highly sought after talent in the field.

  • Compensation and Benefits:
    • Develop a robust compensation strategy and benefits programs to attract, motivate, and retain employees.
    • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and benchmarks to ensure equitable and competitive packages.

  • Performance Management:
    • Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback.
    • Implement strategies to improve employee performance and development with a particular emphasis on working with a remote workforce.

  • Legal Compliance and Policies:
    • Ensure compliance with behavioral healthcare industry regulations and employment laws.
    • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
    • Support and drive initiatives to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.
    • Develop and align programs to promote a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Qualifications:

Professional Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an authentic, strategic, and vibrant Human Resources leader. He/she must be a driven, creative, resourceful thinker who can guide the organization through growth and change. Specifically, this individual must possess the following characteristics:
  • A results-driven, service-oriented executive with a minimum of 15+ years of experience in HR leadership. Specific experience in behavioral health or healthcare services is a benefit, but not a requirement.
  • Intelligence, curiosity, self-confidence, resilience, and charisma to function effectively as a thought-partner to the CEO, the executive team, and the organization at large.
  • Demonstrated record of success bringing in high-level thinking and impact, in a challenging, service-oriented organization with a geographically distributed workforce, within Massachusetts.
  • An operationally focused executive with experience supporting corporate HR team members and has broad generalist experience managing HR service centers of excellence.
  • Prior experience as a Chief People Officer or as a top divisional HR executive for a sizeable, organization.
  • Deep experience managing 20+ direct and indirect reports and refining how HR services are delivered.
  • Experience in a wide range of Human Resources issues including recruiting, retention, employee relations, compensation, and benefits, as well as creative employment policies required to successfully grow an organization.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software and tools for managing HR processes.

Education, Certification

  • BA/BS is required, master’s degree in business, Human Resources, or related field highly desired.
  • SHRM-SCP Certification highly desired.

  • Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
